DB Manga Volume 43?

Post by chronofanatic4282 » Wed Jun 23, 2004 6:48 pm

I have heard on many websites that there was supposed to be 43 manga volumes of Dragon Ball. Is this simply because Toriyama didn't finish all of what he wanted, or is it because they crammed 17 chapters into volumes 41 and 42, thus eliminating the need for a 43'rd volume????

*edits* Dude, you only need ONE question mark. I originally got the information in question years ago from 707... so he might be the best to answer it. It's one of those things that we never bothered to double-fact-check...

Actually I think he finished all of what he wanted, and then some. He wanted to call it quits after Freeza, remember.

It would have been interesting if that had happened. I know he's not the only manga artist who kept his/her series going longer than he or she originally intended. From what I've heard Ms. Takeuchi was originally intending Sailor Moon R to be the end of the series.

That's pretty interesting, considering the sagas they wrote AFTER they wanted to end it ended up being their best work. It's what came after THAT where it started going downhill :D

Then again, I haven't seen Stars.

Yeah, Takeuchi-sensei originally intended Sailor Moon to end at the Black Moon arc, but there was apparently fan demand, so she threw in new power-ups at the end (the Inners getting power-ups that don't appear in the anime for some reason...) and poof, the Infinity arc.

As for Sailor Stars.. I haven't seen full episodes yet because I'm cheap, but it's a real pick up from SuperS (which I personally enjoyed.. *sulks*) , and the Starlights are pretty cool characters, even if Sailor Star Maker's "Star Gentle Uterus" gets interesting reactions from fans (including those who refuse to admit it's what she actually says -- dammit, Takeuchi isn't some clean and innocent woman; she drew Usagi with detailed nudity, dammit, and said it was fun).

As for the manga (called the Stars arc), it's pretty meh-ish in my opinon. The fact that there seem to be limitless Sailor Senshi is fairly neat (yay for fanfics~), but it's kinda depressing (the Senshi are killed off way too early).

Hm.. I forgot what else I had to say....

Heh, I guess it's my fault for getting it on this track, and as much as I'd like to whine about how SMS was the best and still hated all of the characters and everything they stood for...

This is a DB board ^^;;. Back to DB! w-00-t!

>_>;;; Well, you caught me in a talkative mood. It's probably a good thing my memory shorted out or I would've never shut up.

But right. DB.

I seem to remember that Sailor Moon was suppossed to end after R, then S, then Super S, and then finally Stars (although I might have got the order wrong), which makes her even worse than Toriyama.

This was a rumor sparked by people who got Daizenshuu 7 but couldn't read Japanese. A bunch of people were saying a few years back that the rare illustrations (DBGT character sketches) of Toriyama were "proof that the Grand Tour Arc was going to be volume 43". Morons.

I don't think anyone understood what I was originally talking about. I didn't mean that maybe Toriyama wanted to further continue the manga, rather that maybe he wanted to make the final tournament (Goku V.S. Uub) longer then like 2 or 3 chapters. Maybe more like 10-15 chapters.

(I just remembered this like 2 seconds after my last post) To follow up what i just said, I remember seeing on a website a picture of the completed collection manga. (The picture where everyone is running) Anyway, the site talks about how Son Goku's legs and feet had to be cut short to fit on volume 42 because they were originally planned for volume 43.

1) See the "edit" button next to your posts? Press that instead of double posting.

2) The extra feet was just for the spine of the tankoubon when put together. Once the image was divided properly, there was Goku's feet leftover. This wasn't for an extra volume, it just got cut off because there was no room.
