Favorite English narrators

Post by Super Sonic » Sun Sep 02, 2007 4:00 am

As most guys know, DB, Z, and GT all had a different narrator in their dubs. Just thought I'd ask of them, who would you guys say were your favorites? Didn't really watch GT so no opinion on whoever did it, but for the others, while I like Kyle Hebert's, I personally thought Brice Armstrong's voice was perfect for narration.

Well, I have to say, I concur with Super Sonic. I like Kyle Hebert, although Brice Armstong is definately my favourite English narrator for the DB franchise.

:? I don't know these names..

Well, I thought FUNimations Dragon Ball dub had the best narrator. (In dub comparison anyway) He sounded more like someone trying to tell the story instead of what was done with Z or.. Gt.

Yeah, that's Brice Armstrong for the win. We all seem to like him around here, myself included. :D

Brice Armstrong definately. He gave off that same excitement that Jouji Yanami did. At least thats how I feel.

. . . holy shit, I'm not even sure of that one. I can remember the voice very, very distinctly, Duo, but somehow I just can't put a name to it . . . and for that, I am a failure.

Anybody wanna give that one a go?

From Best to worst

Jim Conrad (1995 Dragon Ball dub episodes 1-13)
Blue Water Dragon Ball Narrator (Have to look up the name)
Doc Harris (Dragon Ball Z Episodes 1-53, and 108-276)
Brice Armstrong (FUNi Dragon Ball)
Dale Kelly (FUNi Dragon Ball Z 54-179)

Really Bad

Kyle Hebert (FUNi Dragon Ball Z 1-291 and replacement of Dale Kelly)
Funi Dragon Ball GT Narrator

I don't know if the Harmony Gold Dragon Ball stuff had a Narrator as I've never seen it before so I can't list it currently.

The guy who did the narrator for Funi's DB dub(Brice Armstrong) was awesome. He always sounded so excited whenever he said Dragon Ball. I love that guy's voice.

Did you like him as Ginyu and Slug as well? But like I said, his voice sounded perfect for narration.

I've got to agree with you for the most part, although personally I'd place Doc Harris as the best.

Dale Kelly was bad but in an entertaining and funny way, while Kyle Hebert was just bad.

I'm . . . genuinely surprised by just how many people want to hate on Kyle Hebert these days.

I have hated Kyle Heberts Gohan and Narrator voices from the beginning.

Hebert's Gohan feels so out place as it just doesn't suit the character, he doesn't sound like what Gohan should sound like. I feel Brad Swaile's Gohan is more true to the character than Hebert's.

Hebert's Narrator just doesn't fit the show, it sounds like some random person was chosen to tell the story and he adds no emotion to whats going on in the story. His Narrator has this over exaggerated voice similar to Dale Kellys but lacks the emotion and desperation that the Narrator is suppose to give which in turn is suppose to give the audience suspense.

I don't think Hebert is a bad actor, but he just happened to have gotten casted in 2 roles that didn't suit him as his Kiba voice in the Naruto dub is one of the few voices in that horrible dub that really suits the character perfectly.

Kyle, because I'm totally biased. Brice Armstrong and Doc Harris were both really good as well.

I like Kyle Hebert's Gohan. I also admit I've never heard Brad Swaile's (is an American). And as "that horrible dub" is the most popular show on that network now, it can't be that bad.

By the way, does anyone know who is the narrator for GT?

Armstrong...fo shizzle.

I like Kyle Hebert's Gohan as well, but his narrator just makes me cringe. I always dreaded hearing that gaytarded "NEXT TIME, ON DRAGON_BALL_ZEEEEE" shit.

Brice Armstrong narrating is indeed a win for FUNimation. A shame FUNi thought he wasn't "EXTREEEEEME" enough for narrating DBZ. :/

Andrew T. Chandler is credited as the narrator for the GT TV special. Not sure if he did the series.

Yeah, Chandler was the GT Narrator.

I've heard Brad Swaile as Gohan, eh. Brad's totally awesome, I've met him before and I think he's a good actor, but I'm not totally keen on his Gohan voice, though again, I'm biased so it shouldn't really matter.

Oh and it wasn't because he wasn't "extreeeeme" enough for DBZ, Brice just was hired on a different project.
