Dub Comparisons

Post by XxAtarisCorexX » Mon Sep 10, 2007 2:27 pm

I found this video today that I thought was pretty interesting. Basically it give you a taste of the dubs of a number of different countries.

Quite honestly I think Funi did pretty well on this scene, and of course there was the Japanese version. The other ones I didn't get into much, but then again the only ones I could really understand were the English one and a tad bit of the German one. Anyways, just thought I'd share.

Wow, the American version is way better than the Japanese one...

I find Piccolo's Brazilian Portuguese voice horrible xD
Hungarian comes in third place after Japanese and Mexican dubs.

Cossacks? :?

Also, is it just me or does the Hungarian Goku sound like he's phoning it in? He was pretty bad on the "Goku's first SSJ transformation" comparision too.

Yeah...Cossacks. I'm not sure either. Also I agree with the Goku phoning in sound. lol And in that last little scream when he's transforming sounds like he's just...well...uninterested.

Wow, Piccolo scared me for a moment on his voice in portuguese. I think Goku's Mexico scream when he's about to turn super saiyan sounds the best, more manly.

I'm so glad that the Cantonese dub turned out pretty decent.

Being lazy, I'll just copy my comment from Veoh into this topic:
I think I liked the japanese and german ones best. The three last ones were pretty bad, as Hungarian Goku: Can't do screams. Brazilian Piccolo: WTF? Portugese Goku: Horrible voice during the screaming-part, but at least his acting was better than the hungarian one. I've never liked the english dub, either.

Wow, Piccolo's voice in the Portuguese version sounds horrible

Except that, I think they're not that bad, especially the German and Mexican ones. All this dubs have something on common : they're better than the American one. IMHO of course.

The way Goku screams each time one of his muscles gets bigger is terribly lame. The German one is the best I think, both the voice and the acting fit.

Damn, I was so close to forget the crappy German and Portuguese dubs... :?

The screams of Goku's VA is one of the few good things in the German dub.
Forget it!

Oh...

And I finally get to watch the fabled Mexican dub. True enough, the scream is pretty good! And what the fudge?! Everybody else besides us (Americans) get the Japanese music. That is not fair! (Rolls on the ground and cry like a fanboy.)

Yeah, it sounds like each muscle growth comes with a stab in the @$$. And plus the other Gohans don't sound forced.

I'm sorry, but if you think the Hungarian travesty is better than the US version, you're letting your biases control you.

Yeah. I mean, it's not like the sudden muscle growth is forcibly stretching his skin or sharply increasing the tensions on his tendons and bones.

A cartoon character treated as possessing human-like physiological characteristics. If he screams, something is causing him pain. Image

Why is it that Funimation thinks that the American audience is stupid or can't remember things that happened 2 minutes ago. In every other dub, Gohan says something like "Let's go!" But in the Funi dub, he says "That's Dad!" Like we forgot who they were looking for. That may be a bad example but does anyone who used to watch the english dub get that feeling that Funi thinks we need every minor insignificant thing spelled out for us to understand what's going on?

Yeah, except for the crappy voice acting and script writing.

I actually don't mind the dub music though, but the voice actors never get the 'feel' of the scene down.

This would make sense if all other transformations caused everyone else pain throughout the entire series. But they never have, nor have they even hinted at it, so why would it be the case now?

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Maybe he wasn't accustomed to making that transformation yet? I dunno, just speculating.
