Problem with swap magic and magic keys...
So awhile ago some of you might remember I made a thread about getting swap magic so I could play Sparking Meteor! and other DBZ imports. Well, I ended up getting swap magic 3.8 and the magic keys. Lately whenever I put a game disc in some of the time I'll hear a scraping sound....I looked at my disc and to my delight (sarcasm) that damn magic key that holds the little black piece over so the system thinks the disc door is closed (I believe it's considered key #2) seems to be scratching the very outer edge of all my discs so I pulled it out of there. So I was wondering...is there anything I can do to either make it lay flat better or some kind of alternative to hold it aside? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It depends. As of now, most modders will pretty much charge you an arm and a leg making it just like buying a japanese system. The normal price for PS2 modding nowadays is $120 or higher.SonEric84 wrote:Yeah, I thought about getting a Japanese system, I just don't have the cash right now. Is modding expensive?
I got my modded ps2 from a close friend who didn't want it anymore... so I consider myself very lucky. I killed my psx doing the swap trick to play my imports so I can never trust a swap method again.

6 years of disc swapping my psx killed the laser.SonEric84 wrote:Damn.Castor Troy wrote:It depends. I have a gamehunter for PSX and it still actually works. How exactly is swapping harmful?
I was only using swap magic on my old ps2 for about a year until it stopped working and the ps2 was starting to sound like it was grinding stuff...

Uh oh....
Is this magic key thing the item you use with a slimline PS2? I have a normal-type PS2 and use the slide card thing (and have done so for years) and haven't had any problems.
I think getting the PS2 chipped is better than getting a PS2 from any other particular region since you just need that one machine plugged in. If you buy a Japanese PS2 you'll still need your US one for English language games and you'll also need converters for both the power supply and visual output.

Yeah, the magic keys are for the slim version only. By the way, you're not supposed to have an image in your signature...just thought you should know.Teclo wrote:Is this magic key thing the item you use with a slimline PS2? Well in all honesty what DBZ games need a Japanese PS2/chipped PS2/Swap Magic to be played apart from BT3 which is out in about a month anyway? If it's just so you can play DBZ games a little earlier (and in a foreign language) then maybe it isn't worth it. I tried playing the Japanese BT3 the other day and it was OK just to test the water, so to speak, but I had very little idea what I was really doing, the Evolution Z system was totally out of bounds since I didn't know what anything was and there was a game mode "hosted" by 17 and 18 that remains a total mystery to me.
Of course, if there's a bunch of games you want to play and/or you can read Japanese then that significantly changes things.

Uhm, I honestly don't use that piece from the Magic keys.. @_@; And mine works just fine.
I'm not actually using the Magic Keys, but the thing I do has the same effect. Have you tried without using it?
EDIT: You are referring to the piece that holds the disc brake, right? If it's the one that holds down the sensor, just put a wad of tissue in there.

Yeah, I'm talking about the disc break. (I forgot what it was called.

It is as it doesn't require you to bust the front of the tray, nor require you to scrape a tool around to dig for a switch to pull and move around. Breaking off the tip of that tool and trying to jiggle the damn thing around is what eventually offed my fat PS2.Teclo wrote:Does the slimline PS2 run as quietly as they say? I'm considering getting one and perhaps oddly enough that's one of the main reasons.
The slim one requires little to no work and is indeed quiet.
