Wii Modding
How is it done? After hearing that the NA release of Meteor again will not have the Japanese music, I really just want to get the japanese release, but what sort of process am I going to have to go through in order to get it to work? Also, are there any drawbacks, such as my console dying or something like that ?
The only real drawback is that Nintendo can make some uptades to Wii's firmware through downloadable updates and games. With one of these, it is possible that your Wii stopping working because it's modded. Microsoft did something like that some time ago, but the "modders" aways create a new chip that works... This is to avoid the bootlegs to work on the system.
And if the modding is crappy (The chip is not good), yeah, your console could die. Well, this happens to PS2...

The wii modchip should be completely stealth (depending on the one you get) but there's always a chance a future firmware update may kill it, along with your wii. I have a wiikey modchip and it's been working perfectly after 2 firmware updates. Most modchips usually have a region lock and you need to turn it off before playing imports (I almost cried spending 70 bucks on Meteor thinking it didn't work until I figured this out.
)
If you know how to solder, then the modchip is $20. Most professionals usually charge $100 for the chip and installation. I say it's worth the $100 because if you mess up soldering the chip, then you kill the wii forever and have to get a new one. It's worth every penny and I also plan on getting more imports (like the Naruto Shippuden games) for it.

You might be disappointed there since it seems Naruto Geikitou Ninja Taisen EX does not work with a mod-chip, it does'nt seem to have anything with the region-encoding but I have no idea what the problem is.Castor Troy wrote:I also plan on getting more imports (like the Naruto Shippuden games) for it.
I'm a NGNT fan and actually bought all of them (well except the first one) for the Gamecube, but since the Ex series does not seem to work on a US (or European) Wii even with a mod-chip I did not yet bother to buy a Wii and mod it.
Off course if the problem is eventually solved I still need to see where I should buy my games since Lik-Sang is no longer in buisness

But if I'm wrong about this whole Ex thing I gladly be corrected so that I will be able to once again pick up with the NGNT-series.
Edit:
Just realised Ramza beat me to the NGNT thing I should first finish reading before I post
