Found some DBZ goodies in Hong Kong!

Post by tinlunlau » Sat Dec 01, 2007 1:35 am

I've been in Hong Kong for 2 weeks now and confirm to y'all that I've found some official DBZ products that I've honestly never seen imported over to North America.

I found this nicely packaged marble and a tiny little cloth-like bag. I don't know what it is but it is some sort of a wish marble. If anyone has more info, please do tell.

Some DBZ gatchapon goodies, supposedly newly released. Never seen those in Toronto either.

I'll hunt down for more DBZ goodies in the coming weeks.
The world is your's.

Thanks for describing everything in such great detail. It's like almost having those products myself. :P

And waste time in Mongkok again? That area bores me!
Hardly any shops that fit my interests and so many nerdy otaku's hunting down for cheap Gundam/EVA model kits.

Mongkok has loads of Anime stalls, if my memory serves me there was a really good store not far from the ladies market by that sports stadium. Most fans I met mostly bought the Doraemon figures seeing how it was constantly on TVB. Most of the other good places I can think of sell bootlegs so think of it what you will. The Dragon Ball stuff I did see was the DVD and VCD Boxsets, Dragon Ball keerings and I Found gloves and scarves. I'll be going back to Hong Kong in July so if you find anymore Anime stalls with Dragon Ball gear i'd be very interested, the stinky fruit stalls put me off going to Mongkok very often!

I saw the legit DBZ dvd/vcd boxsets on sale but they tape it altogether and jack up the price to almost 2000 hkd. Too rich for my blood, man!

I also liked how the Rockman anime series is dubbed in English with its original music score and names.

Here in NYC, we have Chinatown, which has all of that stuff really. I've seen toys there before. In fact, I got Dragon Ball: Final Bout, and Dragon Ball Z: Legends there. Both were Japanese versions. Man, I got those so long ago too. I remember it was just before the episode where Goku turns Super Saiyan against Frieza for the first time. I got those right before Toonami aired that episode for the first time. Man I loved those games so much.

Surprisingly, I got the Japanese version of Ultimate Battle 22 (27) at EB Games. I was as shocked as anyone that they had it there. Then a few years later, they released the US versions of Final Bout and UB27. Eh, I'm happy with my Japanese ones. They hold such a sentimental value to me. And they didn't redo Legends. Well too bad, I had more fun with Legends than any other DBZ game to be honest. The replay value is amazing. The game is so simple and so dumbed down, but I just think it's fun.

"Official" and "Hong Kong" in the same sentence?

Best joke I've heard all day.

I wouldn't laugh it off as a joke if I were you. a lot of American products get released much earlier here in Hong Kong than America. Many of them released much earlier than North America itself. And yes, Super Dragon Ball Z (arcade version) is in almost every major arcades. I've seen many youngsters come to the arcades with Super DBZ memory cards.

Bandai has a huge market in Hong Kong.
Practically, every anime aired on TV over there is sponsored by Bandai in some form or another.
