Podcast with "DBGT: Transformation" review
Podcast with "DBGT: Transformation" review
Hey guys. I just got Transformation for the GBA and wanted to here Vegetto EX's two cents on it again, but I've searched the archive and can't pin point which episode contains his review.
Anyone remember or care to help me? Thanks.

We never actually reviewed it; it came out (August 2005) a couple months before we began the podcast (November 2005). I mention it every once in a while in a raging fit of disgust, but that's about it

Wow...for what it's worth, I really hope you bought the game really cheap. It's, in my opinion, worth about one playthrough, two if you're crazy (like me) and want to unlock everything, and then only worth keeping if you want to say you have it in your collection.

Bought it the day it came out... $29.99...
...

I constantly see it at Best Buy over in the bargain area for $9.99, though, these days. I'd say that's an appropriate price for a completely new copy of it, though you can get the combination cartridge of Buu's Fury & Transformation for ~$25. Amazon doesn't have any in-stock on their own, and I don't see it new anywhere else, either...

I give it a "meh". I don't much like GT, but it is kinda fun to play as the GT-era characters. But, AFAIK, there's no stages beyond the ones in the story mode, so once you complete that the first time, there's not much replay value from levels while you try to get enough points to unlock new characters.

True. Normally I scorn cheat codes for DBZ games unless I can't do something on my own (getting EVERY single capsule in Budokai 2
), but this one I just used the cheats. It wasn't worth playing again to get all the characters.
I still say the game could have been good, if it had been done right. I'm not sure where it went wrong (well, ya know, other than being GT inspired) but look at Dragon Ball: Advanced Adeventure - Great game, but it was essentially the same engine used in Transformation. The two seemed awfully similar to me anyway.
And on the subject of the Buu's Fury/GT Transformation double-pack game - is there anything new in the games to make them worth purchasing if you already have them individually?

Honestly, it's kinda like Sagas in that aspect. Sure, you've now got Broly and Bardock (or Piccolo and SSJ Vegeta for Transformations), but you can't use them anywhere but the same stages you've gone through a bunch of times before.
Really, though, it's not too bad as a little time-waster, to just keep the all-charas-unlocked save and pick it up every now and then to bust some heads with your Pan-Uub-Piccolo Dream Team.

Ah yes, I guess I don't remember a full review. I think it was during the "releases" segment when the Buu's Fury/Transformation release was brought up that you talked about how you played it and returned to work very angry (I have a strange memory, don't I)?VegettoEX wrote:We never actually reviewed it; it came out (August 2005) a couple months before we began the podcast (November 2005). Anyway, I got it used for $9.99 and it's worth ten bucks just to have the full series, but it's definatly lack-luster and seems rushed as far as game play goes. I do agree that it's kinda cool to play through the GT era and that it's an ok time killer though. Hopefully if they do (I doubt it) make a Transformation 2 it will improve on some things like LOG II did on the original.
