A song similar to a DBZ song

Post by SuperSaiyan3Goku » Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:31 pm

I couldn't really think of a good topic name, so what I put just means that I have found a song that sounds like an instrumental song in DBZ's score.

The song that I'm talking about is played in the Freeza saga when Vegeta gets killed. Here's the clip: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7kUj6owAivE&feature=related The song is located at the 5:37 point.

The song that I think sounds like that song is called O Fortuna. Here's the song in a video on YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nqw3KWb9bH4

Does anyone else see a resemblance in these two songs, or am I just going crazy? It's been bugging me all day, and I just wanted to see if anyone else saw a connection. If these is un-allowed, I understand.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Ho-ley moley, you may be onto something. There are points where you could almost downright mistake one song for the other. I knew the DragonBall Sleeping Princess version reminded me of some similar song... I'm not into classical theatre/opera as much as I should be, so I don't know squat about the history of this song or whatever (and I'm ashamed to come across as such an ignoramus), but after hearing this, I'm pretty sure I've heard it before; and I would not be surprised if there was a connection, and that Shunsuke Kikuchi was indeed inspired by this song.
It also reminds me of "Liberi Fatali" from Final Fantasy VIII.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

That song is from Carmina Burana. Here's the Wikipedia entry on it. And here'sthe lyrics, including a translation. It does sound far too similar to be a coincidence, I would think.

It's not a surprise. "O Fortuna" is a really well known song. This makes me wonder, how many other instances are there of inspiration from classical music in DB?

I knew that the members here were going to find a resemblance! :P

The reason that I asked that question was because:

1. It was going to bug the hell out of me if I didn't.

2. I just got the Freeza saga, and I was watching it, hearing the song a few times. I thought, "I know I've heard that song before, but I can't put my finger on it". I had actually listened to the song on my iPod earlier, so that's probably where I heard it. :P

I wonder if there is any more inspiration for the songs in DBZ? I would've found them already, if there are any. :D

Well, there's an instance within just one episode of the original DragonBall (the one where Pilaf first steals the Balls) where Bulma bemoans her fate, and we get a blip from "Beethoven's Fifth" and the traditional Death March.
