King Kai and his death

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

King Kai and his death

Post by kaioken12 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:31 pm

Hi,

I have question concerning the death of King Kai/North Kaio.
When Cell blew himself up, he died along with Goku and his ape (and this insect in the anime).

So, when the dragonballs are used to bring everyone back to life, Goku stays dead because he already had been revived by the dragonballs before.
But what about Kaio? Shouldn't he or his ape be revived as well?

First I thought, that this happened because he is some "deity" person who doesn't belong to the "normal realm" and is not effected by the power of the dragonballs.

But I noticed, that this can't be true, as the Elder Kaioshin, who is an even "higher deity person" was revived by the dragonballs in the Buu saga.

So, North Kaio shouldn't have been dead as well after this "bring everyone back"-wish.

Okay, the Kaioshin was on Namek in the "normal realm" and Kaio was in "the other world" when the wishes were made - one could think that North Kaio was "out of range"...
But you can't say that the dragonballs are limited to the normal realm like that.
Otherwise no one could be revived being at North Kaio's planet.

But all dragonballs (earth and namek) did that job just fine (example: Goku Saiyan arc, Piccolo Namek arc).

So does anyone know why the revive wish didn't work for North Kaio (or even his ape)?
Is there any "official" explanation or is it again something, that we can imagine ourselves?

I am curious about your ideas/thoughts.

Best regards

I don't know if it was ever explained. But perhaps King Kai has died before? If I recall correctly, he was knowledgeable about Dragon Balls, so some set may have been used to revive him before. Just a thought.

I say he wasn't revived, because it doesn't matter.

I mean it's not like he's needed to come to earth and fight evil, he can talk telepathically to everyone whether he's alive or dead.

No joke, I think I've answered this same question in two separate threads. And once I was completely ignored even though I quoted the manga. Nevertheless:

Goku: "The Lord of Worlds could've come back to life with Shenlong's wish, but he's staying to keep me company."

Dragonball, volume 35, page 134.

Edit: Hahaha.

I guess so.

Besides, being a Kaio, the same rules possibly don't apply to him. Odds are he can come and go as he pleases, living or dead.

Also what Tyro said.

I need to grab my Mar. 2005 ish of SJ to clarify for the manga, but I remember the anime (at least dub-wise) had the wish be, "Revive everyone on Earth killed by Cell." And since King Kai wasn't on or from Earth...

Woops... Sorry about that, but thank you for your answer anyway.
But assuming that King Kai can travel anywhere as he likes (in the anime the other Kai's are on Grand Kaio's planet as well), why would he choose to be dead and have the others laugh about him?

But well... anyway... so there is an explanation (in that quote from the manga) but it isn't the best logic - but hey, it's Dragon Ball ;)

I am pleased with the answers, thank you all very much!
