Saiyan & Namek Sagas

Post by Deus ex Machina » Thu Aug 05, 2004 7:25 pm

...are finally announced!

As reported by AnimeOnDVD.com, The FUNimation panel at Otakon has given a 2nd Quarter 2005 release for the Saiyan & Namek saga's. Also, the GT television special is slated for a November 16th release (Which is my birthday, creepy).

On a seperate note, I was dissapointed to learn that the first 3 DBZ movies have been out of production...for an entire year now...and I just found out now. :? And I had just ordered the first two from my local store...

YAY! I mean, yay for the first stuff, boo for the first 3 movies being out of production.

Finally, rejoice. Party. Rock on. Get down.

I guess VegEX will update the DVD guide accordingly now, with this announcement, plus the "Cell Games: Awakening" topic I posted. That guide's getting a lot of business lately.

Regarding the Saiyan and Namek Sagas... I wonder... will it be 17 discs again? Considering the fact that these episodes have been available, dubbed, but still, for a long time, I think collections would be better. 3 Saiyan sets and 3 Namek sets or something.

Whoa! I'm not entirely sure I understand the whole movie thing. Are you saying they're NEVER going to redub movies 1-3? Please say no.

Those movies were pretty well dubbed to begin with, with Pioneer behind it, using FUNi's people. Unless you count that horrendous TV-only version of "Tree of Might".

I highly doubt they'll be redubbed. There's no need, really.

It's really more of a question of consistency (something Funi has often strived for, even when it hurt them and made them look folish), and it makes little sense to have an entire series (in fact, three series) with one voice cast, but three out of 13 or so movies (there's those TV specials too) with a different one. Assuming Funi re-releases the original 3 DBZ movies (which I don't think they've said either way on that; heck, has anyone bothered to ask them?), they'll surely be re-dubbed.

Meanwhile, to get more back-er on topic, the main question for the Saiyan/Namek releases is format, episodes per disc, etc. Actually, given how much they trimmed, keeping the same number of overall discs would be an improvement :P
