Transformations - Movie Characters

Post by VegettoEX » Tue Aug 10, 2004 10:28 am

Since this page is such a huge undertaking, I'm going to give it its own new thread :P.

http://www.daizex.com/guides/transforma ... haracters/ (click here if that link doesn't work)

I did all the images for what movies I had written last night, without even realizing how much work I was doing. Heh. It was fun! Showed it to a few people in the chat, got some quick feedback, changed a few minor things... and there it goes.

Anything that you can think to add/change would be great. Idealy I'd like to have more artwork like you see with Coola and Broli, but for Garlic and Tullece and Slug... it just doesn't exist. There's actually a nice black-and-white drawing of Slug in daizenshuu six that I might have Meri color for me...

I want to do a little color correcting on the first Garlic picture and the SSJ Broli picture, but other than that, I'm happy with the pics :D.

Anyway, yeah. Go to town.

Awright, time to go to town. 8)

So far everything is going spiffy, except, (and you knew this was coming!) some of the info about movie 8, which I have to disagree with.

To be exact, the idea that Broli was somehow driven insane by Goku's crying, which was why he turned into a physcho. I know I've been hearing this from just about every Broli bio on the entire internet, but it just doesn't seem true when you study the movie. Broli was already insane; he was born a natural SSJ, and he was a killing machine. He just hated Goku so much that it was the only thing strong enough to break Paragus' mind control. The universally accepted idea that Goku drove Broli to become a homicidal killer seems to be just fans trying to understand why a seemingly peaceful looking guy turned crazy, of course these people forget that Broli only LOOKS peaceful because he's being kept under control!

Again, I hate to split hairs, but I question the authenticity of the supposed SSJ pre-teen scene. It's true Broli's hair looks very light, but the colors are very distorted (Thanks to it being a flash back) and Broli is surrounded completly by Ki, Broli might be a normal SS here, but it's just as likely that his hair is blue (Like it is when he became a "false" SSJ), or even just black. If you compare Broli's altered hair color in the next scene, it's the exact shade as Paragus.

That's all. Just 3 more movies to go. BTW, do you plan on adding Dr. Raichi's monster to the list?

I'm not married to anything I wrote on Broli. And I, too, am not sure about his SSJ-ness as a kid... in many frames I'm 100% sure he is, and then in the next frame of the same scene, I don't have a clue.

It's RETARDEDLY hard to tell.

Probably won't add Dr. Raichii stuff to the list... that would be confusing listing a (technically) video game character to the "Movie Characters" list when I keep saying it's not an OVA/movie :P.

Looks great so far.

Nice touch with the "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah" space filler...

Very nice guide EX. I avoided some things on Broly to avoid spoilers. So Broly returns I guess.

I've added movie 9 and 12 characters to the page; all that's left is Hildegarn, I believe. Movie 9's lacking transformed images because they're just not in the daizenshuu; I'll have to wait until it comes out next week to take some additional screen-caps.

My mind is getting pretty exhausted, so I'm sure I left some things out / got some things wrong. Go for it, folks.

Added up through Hildegarn. More or less complete, minus the "Blah blah blah" notes that need to be written.

I'd be extremely thankful if people would really tear this page apart. Let it be known that I don't pretend to know everything, and I probably make more mistakes than I should after being into the show for so long. I just don't remember my crap anymore. Luckily, I think my love for the show makes up for my utter incompetence.

I'm going to clean up the first Garlic Jr. image, re-do the Slug images, and take some corresponding transformed screen-shots to go along with the movie 9 characters (once I get the DVD)... but other than that, it should be good to be thoroughly proof-read.

(note to self: you still need to go and add in "False SSJ" from DBZ movie 4 over on the Saiyan page and cross-reference it)

As always, I more than deeply appreciate it.

This is more of an observation, but in any case, for most of the characters, you explain how he/she/it was defeated, but for several, you don't. It stands out a bit, especially when it comes to Hildegarn, as he was defeated by the super-powerful attack that Toei thought up out of nowhere ^^;;

Similar to a butterfly, Hildegarn breaks free from a cocoon-type encasing, and rises with slightly changed features and new wings. Two long horns now stretch back from his head, which is now more than just the skull from before.
Fixed a couple of misspellings and made the last sentence flow a little better. It didn't sound right to me.

Haha, I wrote Hildegarn's late last night and didn't spell check it. Shows what a dope I am ^^;;.

Though you'd want to eliminate the second -now- in there (the one not bolded) because that makes it confusing at the very least.

Well, this certainly clears up any confusion.

Daizenshuu #6, movie 8, Broli forms; note -- large image

As you can see, next to the Broli in the middle is clearly written "suupaa saiya-jin." Well, then... time to re-organize some information...! If anyone wants to take a crack at translating any of the text, feel free (Julian? Rach?). I'm sure it's mostly more boring/generic stuff like "He is a super incredible bad guy!" like all the other ones, but hey... there might be SOMETHING of interest.

So Brolly has greeney-grey-ish (hey, I'm colour blind) hair when a Super Saiyan? Wow. Being "legendary" really does fuck you up, doesn't it?

I'll take a crack at it (from left):

-=-=-

Normal
<- An apparently docile Broli. The ring around his head suppresses his power.

Super Saiyan
<- His first-level transformation. His power is already such that Vegeta's attacks don't seem to faze him!

Terrifying! The Super Fiend, Broli
One of the few remaining Saiyans. He was born on the same day as Goku, and placed in an incubator right next to his. Ever since that time, his power and abilities had towered over everyone else's, as the Legendary Super Saiyan. He possesses a super power capable of destroying a planet in a single blow.

The Legendary Super Saiyan
^ His second-level transformation! With his vicious temperament, he pushes the limits of destruction.

-=-=-

So... how's that?

"He possesses a super power capable of destroying a planet in a single blow."

The important thing is how they didn't set the bar so high for Broli's power that it's almost silly ^_^;;;;;

Is that sarcasm? Cuz if it is they didn't: he blew up planet Shammo in one strike.

Useful Internet Tip #425: If you think it's sarcasm, and you're ona forum where the average age is above, say, 11, then it's sarcasm.

(And I think you missed the point anyway, because they DID set the bar so high for Brolli's power that it was silly. But then, almost everyone's power was silly by the end of the series.)

But he was refferring only to what Julian translated, which wasn't off from the truth.

Yeah, but...look, y'see...

Gagh!

Okay. The translation says that Brolli can destroy a planet in one blow. SDHero says that it's a good thing that Brolli wasn't so powerful that it was almost stupid. Brolli WAS so powerful that it was almost stupid. SDHero knew this. By saying the opposite of the truth, he was using sarcasm. You see?

SDHero wasn't saying that the Daizenshuu made Brolli stupidly powerful. He was saying that Brolli was just stupidly powerful, full stop.
