More Live Action rumors

Post by Sun_Wukong » Tue Aug 10, 2004 5:07 pm

According to Saiyanz Rage, more rumors are starting to float around, again. The movie is now schedualed for 2007 and they have actually started to talk to some actors, Bill Goldberg, Ray Park, and Tom Welling. The fact that Tom Welling is rumored to be Goku was even mentioned in the July issue of Teen People magazine. Even though Roland Emmerich is still listed as the director on IMDB, rumors now state that no directors have been chosen.

Honestly, I think this is a bunch of crap. With the project confirmed dead just a few months ago, its just now starting to resurface? I still think its great how Fox hasnt made an official press release since they announced the movie in 2002.

I would however want to see Tom Welling as Goku. I honestly think he could pull it off. His Clark Kent in Smallville is identical to Goku's character, except Goku is slightly stupider.

Thoughts?

I'm really unsure how to react; obviously any time a rumor about the movie surfaces, you really have to take it with a pinch of salt, since a lot of times all the rumors are wishful thinking conveyed as facts. But the movie isn't necessarily confirmed as dead just yet; right after Fox and Lucas Arts supposedly claimed they weren't making it, a press release said that a script writer had been accepted or something.

Ugh... I wouldn't put any stock into anything coming from Saiyanz Rage. :? And I think I'm going to email Dave Scherer (a very credible wrestling reporter and columnist) once and for all about this Goldberg thing. Right now.

The only rumor that's EVER been comfirmed is that Goldberg would ACCEPT to play a DB chara ("he has family that are huge fans"), but that he's never been approached by anybody.

Well, Nappa would be a screamingly obvious choice for him to play, if he plays anyone. Tom Welling as Goku...I can see it, I think. Maybe. Possibly.

I can't picture Tom Welling as Goku. I think Johnny Yong Bosch would be a better choice, since he does have martial arts experience.

I really don't think that martial arts experience is that necessary. They got some good stuff out of the actors in The Matrix. And yes, I know it doesn't compare to Super Amazing Asian martial-arts films, but it really won't make a difference to most of the people that would (potentially) go and see it.

Besides, a lot of the fighting would need to be SFX based anyway. Unless you know people who can do that "move so quickly I disappear" move in real life.

Just look at Pretty Guardian Sailormoon. The actresses are mostly teenage girls who are JUST getting into the business, and it took abot 10 or 15 episodes before the fight scenes stopped looking crappy. Even with the huge CGI budget.

How long did they have before filming? Did they spend several months just going over the fight scenes, like they did for the Matrix (and would probably/possibly do for a US-made DBZ movie)? And how huge is a "huge CGI budget" anyway?

I'm not really sure. The show airs weekly and has been since... eh, September of last year. They apparently get a week or two of practice. At the beginning of the series, the fight scenes were mostly like a ballerina recital. It was kinda funny when they acted like they were actually trying to fight, because someone would start kicing, then suddenly either slow down or altogether stop.

And I'm not really sure how big their budget was, but all of the attacks and transformations are done by impressive CGI.

Impressive CGI is quite easy to do now though, and is much cheaper than SFX used to cost. Just compare what Enterprise can do with ship shots compared with TNG just 10 years ago.

Ray Park was actually rumored to play Vegeta.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Sailor Moon had a high CGI budget? It sure didn't look like it with all those cheesy special effects.

And I believe I read somewhere that it was a low-budget production.

I think I once heard a rumour that Robin Shao from Mortal Kombat would play Goku.

B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

Fox just really needs to make a press release before all us fans are driven insane by the ammount of rumors.
