DragonBall Figures: Are They Really Worth This Much?

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:47 pm

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here seriously collect DragonBall figures. I know we all buy them at some point or another but, does anyone here really do it on a serious level where you would pay $75.00 for this:

Image

I ask this because Toywiz.com has some crazy ass prices and Iam wondering for a while now if people who collect this stuff are willing to pay that much. They have always had really high prices but stuff like this (to me) is just stupid...

Is this normal? http://www.toywiz.com/oldragzirtoy.html

Except the prices!! :P

That is an extremely high price to pay for some really cheap made toys. I'm actually a little disgusted with how much they want for them! I've collected ''figures'' (they're not toys :P ) from the series, but haven't paid no where near as much as what they're asking for. :?

$75 for that? No chance in hell. But I've seen some really sweet looking figures that I'd maybe pay that much for.

Those figure will never be worth that much. The only figures I've ever found to be worth paying over 100$ for are the Medicom Goku and SSj Goku figures.

I think they're largely expensive due to their value with time having gone up, the effort it took to get the toys and then Toywiz being a lil bit pricey!

It's like with import japanese toys often costing around £15 ($20-$25).

No toy (really, that's all they are) of that size/quality is worth that much money. Not unless they're an antique or something.

They're nice and all, and if I really wanted some certain something I'd be willing to dish out some extra cash for it, but... $75 for a couple little standing figures? No thanks. I could sculpt my own for a fraction of that price.

I seriously collect Dragonball figures, and I can assure you that that set is not worth $75 dollars. Toywiz always seems to have the most ridiculous prices - I really don't understand why, and I shudder to think that people are actually shelling out that much for mini figure sets that common. That set incidentally, is an American Irwin Toys re-release of much older figures from the French company AB. I don't think even in the original AB packaging, would that set set you back $75.

Mini figures are often times the most rare, so yes, there are sets (AB and others) that I'm sure a collector that needs the figures would pay that kind of amount for.... I've never made it my business to criticizes the way other fans choose to spend their money - all I know is if you want something in your collection bad enough, of course you'll do it! You got to be smart though, and quite frank there are few Dragonball figures in the world that are really worth that kind of money... Especially American figures.

Ebay is your best bet... I just saw this very set up for around 10 dollars on there just the other day.

Unfortunately the AB section of the site is not yet up, but if you want to learn more about Irwin toys and all the figures that they released before making their own, some of that info is now up here :

I'm sure this is dumb, but how much would loose versions of the old Bandai figures go for?

$75...? Geez, I really wish I'd have kept these figures in the box when I got them forever ago.

Haha... Yeah, I honestly don't think anyone would pay anything more than... $10 for these figures, and thats stretching it. They honestly aren't that great (Well, I always thought the Baba figure was kinda cool, and I have a similar Mr. Popo and Ghost Kamikaze that are pretty cool too... But now I'm going off on a tangent), and from my experience they actually have trouble standing. Of course, if you're paying $75... One would hope that you're going to display them in the box.

Isn't that one of Yamma's assistants in the other dimension? I could have sworn on one of the movies he was cleaning floors...

Not dumb at all. It really depends on what Bandai figures you meen (There's seemingly billions...) - are you talking about the Super Battle Collection line? You have to remember that that series was released tons of times in many places in the world, so a lot of those figures are pretty common. For loose Bandai originals though, it really depends... Some of them go for dirt cheep, but others like Super Monkey Baby can go for quite a lot depending on the condition. I would search around on Ebay to get a feel for the prices on the SBC's. If your buying them loose though, it might be really hard to determine if there are really Bandai originals, and not Irwins or some other company.

"Other dimension."

Hehehe... I don't know how long it's been since I've heard the Afterlife referred to as anything but "the Afterlife."
