Vegeta's scars

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Vegeta's scars

Post by Haseowolf » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:44 pm

So, we see when Vegeta is training and the like between the Freeza saga and fighting the Jinzoningen, but I'm trying to remember if shirtless Vegeta is shown in the Buu arc at all, since I don't remember seeing his scars ever again.

Plus, wouldn't scars, like other physical traits, carry over into fusions? Granted Gogeta is more or less a Toei creation (though I myself am not sure if Toriyama designed him at all), I wonder why we never see these scars on Gogeta?

Hell, Super Saiya-jin 4 Vegeta is lacking them as well! Though, again, Toei filler.

Thoughts? Ideas?

That shower scene (that's where his scars are shown in the anime, right) was an anime-only scene. As far as I know, Vegeta was shown shirtless maybe twice in the manga, and he didn't have any scars at all.

Oh, awesome! Thanks for that!

That clears up a whole bunch. But really, I would think with all that Vegeta has gone through that he would have a couple scars or two, yes no?

Meh...I guess he was never outclassed until he got to Earth, I guess. *shrug*

Well, any wounds that he got on Namek were healed (for instance, after being thrashed by Zarbon, he was put in a healing machine, or after Reacoom beat him up, he took a Senzu), so he wouldn't have any in that first picture. But wouldn't Freeza leave some scars on him? Unless the wish that brought him back to life fixed his body up...

As for fights before the series, no, I doubt they ran into anyone who could hurt Vegeta.

I don't think that we ever see Vegeta with his shirt off in the Buu Arc.

Since the movies are seperate from the main storyline there is no way to no for sure if Vegeta had the same scars in Movie 12 storyline that he had in the main staryline, this would be a good reason for Gogeta not having Vegeta's scars, but I'm just overanylizing this.

The easiest explanation for all of this is that Gogeta not having the scars is just another plothole in DBZ and Toei's tendancy to make GT very un-cannon is the reason SSj4 Vegeta does not have the scars.

Well there was Yajirobe who cut Vegeta's back, that made him pass out for a bit. But, that was IN the series.

When he and Trunks are training at 150xG, when Trunks first visually goes SSJ, he's very much shirtless.

Oh, that's right! Sorry, I really haven't watched the series post-season 5 in a long time. The reminders are always great.

Very much shirtless, hmm? ...I look forward to seeing that episode again...

Yeah, but he was already weakened by: Goku's Kaiô-Ken x3 assualt, Goku's Kamehameha with a Kaiô-Ken x4 boost, using the Saiyan Power Ball, and the Genki-Dama. Yajirobe wouldn't be able to touch him at full power.

I always wondered about the disappearing scars myself. He had some scars on his delts and when he had a sleeveless shirt, they weren't there either. Either way, I think that if his body was riddled with scars, it would somehow be better. To show that all he's done was fight. You have a scertain sympathy for someone whose body is a portrait of a long, tough life full of fighting.

Though he doesn't have scars in the two scans above, there were a couple of times in the manga where he was shown with scars. One was when he was asking Dr. Briefs to build him the 300 times gravity machine. Also, when he first stepped out of the healing tank before going to Namek (when he was shown fully nude from the back :) ), I think he had some scars then, too (but I'm in the process of moving and my manga's all packed up, so I can't check). Trust me, I've looked over his nude/shirtless scenes plenty of times, I'm an expert in the field  I also noticed that GT took away his nipples, and gave him his clothes back after he went Oozaru....damn you, GT!

If you'll remember, the dragon doesn't restore bodies, just life. That's why, during the Piccolo Daimao arc for example, they preserve Kuririn, Chiaotzu, and Kame Sen'nin's bodies in those special freezers Bulma whips out.

The exception being when a hero is aloud to keep their body in the after life. That's why Goku doesn't have a big hole in his chest and back, and how Tenshinhan gets his arm back. But since Vegeta certainly wasn't able to, his body would've been the same as he left it when he came back.

I always just assumed that the makeup of the Saiya-Jin body would allow the scars to heal and disappear over time, just like mnay human scars do. Only much more accelerated.

I don't know where I got that from, but I like it.

Hey, I'd forgotten about that scene! Although some of this is obviously his bulging veins, he definitely has a couple of scars:

But none during the Freeza arc (ugh, Vegeta's ass!):

Remember the guy who got his head taken off by #20 (in the manga)? I'm pretty sure Shenlong would have brought him back to life with his head attached if he was wished back. :D

The whole "preserve their bodies" thing is ignored later on in the series.
