What will FUNimation do?

Post by dragondyle » Tue Jul 01, 2008 8:16 pm

What will FUNimation do when they get to the last Double Feature release and they only have movie 13 left and not a 14th movie to make a double feature with?

They could either release 13 along with 11 and 12 or just release movie 13 by itself.

Or the GT TV Special?

It's a long shot but I don't see any other real option.

They could also pack it with the Anniversary movie, but that'd just delay the problem if they double feature the other Dragon Ball movies.

Perhaps they'll do a "Triple Feature" with the 3 Broly movies. Then 7 and 9 would be together, as would 12 and 13.

Maybe they got the rights to that Playdia footage.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I think I may have the answer to this, thanks to a hint from FUNi's packaging of the first two double-feature sets. It's not end-all-speculaton evidence, but it does heavily imply that FUNi will end this release wave with a triple feature.

The first double-feature set, which contained the Trunks and Burdock specials, had a two-page insert inside it. On the front cover of the insert, it said "Dragon Ball Z: The Movies" and it had a picture of the one-star Dragon Ball on it. When the second double-feature, which contained movies 1 & 2, came out, the same kind of insert was included in the case. The cover of the insert was the same, only now it had a picture of the two-star Dragon Ball on it.

Notice a pattern? I'm pretty sure FUNimation plans to release the DBZ movies/specials to make a total of seven releases, one for each Dragon Ball. If this is true, then we can expect six double-features and one triple-feature set, containing either the trilogy of Broli films or movies 11, 12, & 13. I don't find it very likely that FUNi will release movie 13 by itself and make up an imaginary eight-star Dragon Ball to put on the cover of its insert, so this theory seems likely.

Sorry if this little "insert cover" theory is old news, but I haven't seen it brought up in this thread yet. I personally would like movie 13 to be released with the GT special, but whatever.

Interesting; I hadn't notice that about the insert. Makes the idea of a Broly 3-pack more plausible now. The three are the obvious choice, and putting the so-so 11 in with the far more renowned 12 and 13 would be out of place.

Packing the Broly movies together seems logical. Anybody ever noticed that none of the Funi releases indicate that there is an order to the movies? Come to think of it, did the original home video releases of the series even have episode numbers?

I'd prefer it released with the GT special, but maybe they'll put that on one of the GT season sets?

Hopefully, but I'm hanging onto my fullscreen release regardless.

I'm so glad that I have most of the original Full screen releases of the Movies that were put out so long ago. It's hard to find them, unless you look on sites such as EBay or any of the Amazon sites. Hell, even Overstock has a few Movies laying around. What I'm saying is that I'm glad I have these DVDs, so I don't have to watch my precious memories go up in smoke like these Remastered sets are doing.

(By the way, the only movies I don't have are 4, 6, 9, and 11. Just wanted to put that out there.)
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

So near Dragonbox footage (just a tad oversaturated) with the correct aspect ratio and Japanese music are your "childhood memories going up in smoke"?

Yeah, the movies are actually getting a good treatment from what we've seen so far, I own all the 4:3 releases so I wont be picking them up, but I'll have no problem picking them up on Blu-Ray once they're nice and cheap :)

They could officially release them ALL in the UK!

Saves us all having to get costly imports :x

In all reality if DVD is still around then, and they don't focus on Blu Ray - They will more than likely just change the design and front covers, Perhaps adding a few more special features, If we are lucky... Having another disc...

What they could do is put all the movies together in a super jumbo boxset, Maybe similiar to the James Bond suitcase DVD set!
(By the way I do not like James Bond, It is just an example as I have been looking for a present for my daddy 8) )

Although I like having mine on show, If you have them in a suitcase it give easy transportation to friends houses - And when you go on holiday :P

This can be right, but what if Funimation is not trying to say that. If we have all movies, it could be equal to all dragonballs. So what if there is a release with all stars together and that's would make 8 releases.

Just a suggestion. It's hard to explain what I'm trying to say.

They'd probably cost double of what we pay now, nearly all anime in the UK does.

I like the Broly triple idea but the only thing I wouldnt like is it would get the order out of whack a bit but it IS a logical idea with the numbers
