Chichi's dialect
In the Polish release of DB manga Chichi and Gyuumao were talking in southern Polish dialect. I was wondering what dialect/accent/way of speaking they had in the original. Kansaiben perhaps?

Thank you. Hey, maybe Julian or Daimao should write a whole guide or at least a mini-FAQ about the way all characters speak. Not all of these dialects/accents/whatever can be faithfully translated, and I never found such thing on the internet (heck, if it wasn't for manga I wouldn't even know Chichi used a dialect), so...

While we're on Chi-chi's ...umm, interesting, mode of communication..
I've always wondered why she (at least in the anime, I assume the same for the manga. Viz's translations of certain lines turn out exactly the same as our friend Daimo's on the anime, so I tend to assume they're very similar...save Viz's upsetting use of "H.ercule") always calls Goku "Goku-sa"...is this a dialectical variation on "Goku-san" or something I'm unaware of that represents their marital status?
If I recall correctly it's subtitled as Goku-sa' which would indicate the former, but I always hate to assume something about a language which I don't know at all
In any case, a section on the various dialects used would be pretty neat, unless of course you guys'd just plan on mentioning it in each character's bio for that section. Whatever. I'm gonna stop typing now...

For Kami's sake man, "ESSENTIAL POSTING." I don't want to look down the list of the forums and see the same darn time for every single last thread. I'm not necessarily citing this specific post, but geeeeeze... it's hard for me to keep up. If you don't have anything to add, don't add anything. Saying "I agree" or "Good point" or "I don't know" is not adding anything to the conversation.Kam wrote:I read somewhere thet Chichi has a "Kansai accent".
I am also fairly certain that "sa" is more intimate. Can't really confirm it, but I have heard it used in other anime, but only by wives to their husband.

Word of advice: No necroposting please. It's one of the rules. Read them if you haven't already done so.
