Maaaaan. Those boxes look really cool. Now it's a question of paper quality and color pages vs packaging and convenience. VizBig is a little too heavy for my girly hands. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll have made a new printing with better paper for this release? I'll hold off and see.

I'm pretty sure these are outright confirmed to just be the old, B&W regular volumes packed into boxes. Same ol' 16 for DragonBall and 26 for Z.

But anyway... whoo, boy, the boxes do look good. I'd rather get the VizBigs though, but I need some money for that...

Yeah I was really close to pre-ordering them now, because I was waiting for a picture before I made the decision, but I think Ill still wait until we get more info on paper, edits, and color.

I seriously doubt that they will change the format for these box sets, all the changes you mentioned will not come along until later. They will milk this first run along as they can and then years later they will most likely re-release the individual volumes with the edits and so forth prior to a box set with the changes. Capitalism requires that you acquire every single penny from consumers. As with the anime you will have to wait years before everyone gets the edition that they prefer. I am happy with what they have now and so I guess I will order the Dragonball set at the end of this month. I already have all of the Z, I just wish I could buy the box for that set so I can put the ones I already have in it.

Wow, those are sexy :D . I dont own any of them, just a few random comic versions lying about, so getting them all at once like this is a pretty good deal for me. And I dont care about quality and edits, I plan on picking up the Kanzenban's as well, so i'll have what I need.
I enjoy the Dragon Ball original AND Dub, even the VHS Fan-Sub's.

The thing that gets me is I just want to know if, like the version of volume 1 I have, the bulma scene and some "Perverted" stuff will be left untouched. Since there were different versions of volume 1 in the Shonen Jump line.

See and I plan to do this too, So I guess I shouldn't really care on colored pages, edits and such. Since I guess the only justification on me buying the box sets is for the translation, but really how accurate it that?

I'll definitely get the Z box set.

And since there's no hope for a proper release, uncut and no Z in the title, I'll just get the Kanzenban whenever. I'm actually looking forward to this now.

I'm not really into all that big cenorship, so I'll get the second edition of the Manga along with the Kanzenban.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well if I recall many purists here almost blew a blood vessel, over certain name changes that took place like “Vegerot”, and using “Djinn” instead of “Majin”, the changing of the name of the “Saibaimen” to “Cultivars” and the renaming of #16’s attack. However, from what I understand those translations were not wrong (I am not too sure about the Vegerot part), but the anal-retentive folks wanted to burn down Viz.

The redaction of certain questionable material is somewhat understandable since Viz was marketing the product to little kids and teenagers. As I mentioned in another thread most folks here in America thinks that something is wrong if an adult reads manga and watches anime. You have heard all the jokes like oh they must not have a life or girlfriend and they are living in their mother’s basement etc.

As far as translations of terms and names, "Vegerot" and "Hercule" are Viz's only real "offenses." Otherwise, everything's pretty well-done.

I guess if you've watched the Anime you should be able to notice when something is translated funny. Which actually makes me worry about One Piece and Naruto manga... but thats for another forum.

Words have various meanings and nuances just because someone uses a different term that has the exact same meaning does not mean that they have done anything wrong. Its all about traditionists who want an English Japanese manga but they have to understand that this is the American version. If they want the Japanese, they should learn the language and read the original. Viz is an American corporation whose sole purpose is to make money and not so much about appeasing the fans. They essentially have the monopoly on the Dragonball manga so they can do what they like. Personally, as long as the story is there untarnished I am happy. Moreover, I actually thought that the Vegerot name was original. The whole Her_cule incident was fine with me because I somewhat grew up with the dub and when I found out his name was really Mr. Satan it seemed off because of my history with the name Her_cule.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Holy shit they look amazing. Now I'm faced with a problem though. I have about 7 DBZ volumes and 2 DB volumes. Should I just buy these and have some double on the shelf? Or would it be cheaper to find them individually?

I'm thinking I'd save by purchasing the box sets, but I haven't done the math.

I recommend that you buy the sets and sell the others on Ebay.

Glad I pre-ordered them. Not glad that I'm hearing things like censorship. D:

Of course Z, the cashcow, gets the thousand times better boxset... >_>
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
