Rumer: Lionsgate Entertainment's license expires 2010?!

In Wikipedia, I found this piece of info.
Funimation plans on releasing box sets of Dragon Ball when Lionsgate's license of the first movie and 13 episodes expires in 2010.
Do you think it's real?! Will we see the first 13 episodes AND the first movie UNCUT in 2010?!!

This gotta be the real thing!! the problem is... they didn't put a link to the source of this news... and therefore, might not be true.

But if it's true... Will Lionsgate try to re-new their license when it expires?!

Let's all hope they won't do it.

Important parts bolded. As great as it would be, it's 99.999% likely bull.

I found out about this some time ago, Funimation replied to my question with a very vague answer saying that they're releasing the Season Sets of DBZ already.

I've kept on asking though, another time they told me to snoop some more, and another time they confirmed 2010...

Are Lion's gate still putting out the saga of Goku set?, or are they just sitting on the rights to it until they are offered enough money?

Too bad the two disc sets aren't available from Madman any more.

I don't understand how the Mad Man release of the series was able to have the first 13 episodes uncut... But the first movie "Curse of the Blood Rubies" could not be redubbed.. or even have the Japanese version for it. I have all of Dragon Ball on DVD uncut, including episodes 1-13. And yet that movie is still crapified. Not that I like the Dragon Ball movies anyway, but still would be nice to have it. I thought "Mystical Adventure" was total crap, I thought "Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle" was terrible, I thought "Curse of the Blood Rubies" was equally as bad. I didn't have to see it in Japanese to know that I'd hate it. Still, it's the principle that counts.

I imagine Funimation never really had a reason to redub the first movie. They did the first season of the series for continuity reasons in releasing it on American TV, but I think the MadMan release included the first movie just so it could be said that they've released *everything* on DVD. If Funi does eventually release DB season sets, I'm not sure I'd buy them (I'm pretty happy with my MadMan season 1 + American 2-9), but I know I'd buy redubs of the first 3 movies. I never particularly cared for Ceyli Delgadillo's Goku; always liked Stephanie Nadolny's much more.

Even though seven of my Dragon Ball DVDs are Australian, I still love them. I feel like Dragon Ball was the most well done dubbing that they have done. I started watching them in Japanese from the beginning and so far, the dialog is very much the same. I don't see ANY reason to get a Season Set of it for myself. What could they possibly add in that the original dubbing didn't have? On the other hand, it would make tons of fans happy.

It would be cool if they were to release a movie box set that included the 3 Dragon Ball movies and maybe the 10th Anniversary special.

There already is one with the 10th Anniversary and the second and third movies.

Being as I'm going to buy the Madman set for the first 3 arcs, I wouldn't see them need buy Dragonball season sets. The only reason I would buy them is for Dragonbox footage.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I hope FUNimation puts Dragonball back out to buy again relatively soon. I'm really getting tired of holding myself back from taking illegal measures or really expensive measures to own Dragonball.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Sadly, if you want them, you'll have to buy the first box.

I think LionsGate are holding on to the license on-purpose, just to annoy FUNi. Does the Saga Of Goku sell? No. Do LoinsGate actually still want the license?...Probably not, their possibly trying to poker face FUNi into thinking that they still want it, so they can sell the license for an "appropriate" fee...
