New Special: Canon or Not?
New Special: Canon or Not?
Thoughts?
We know that it's a Toriyama concept. Meaning that the concept of Tarble (Like it or hate it) does in fact come from the mans mind. As far as I'm concerned, that's enough. There are a lot of movies where stories are written by one man while the bulk of the actual dialogue is done by someone else. So Toriyama doesn't need to write the script cover to cover for it to be his general work.

Piccolo eats Senzu Beans so it's not that he CAN'T eat. Just that he doesn't need to. But I don't really think minor contradictions are a problem. Toriyama does it himself all the time.Undercooked Sausage wrote:Piccolo eating, and people actually remembering who Majin Buu is points to it being non-canon.
The only real canon is the manga, in my eyes.

Maybe Mr. Satan told everyone his name. I mean he seemed to have no problem including it in the title for his Hotel. Maybe people just assume the Fat one just happens to share the same name. =/Undercooked Sausage wrote:Yeah, but that second thing I brought up is kind of a killer for this specials entry into canon.

As far as I can tell, I do not see too many things that would prevent it from being considered canon. It even clarified a few questions that were raised in GT. I think the people remembering Buu needs to be addressed and the whole there are no more Saiyans issue.Gozar wrote:Thoughts?

Actually, it appears as if Piccolo was eating some kind of broth, which is a liquid. Therefore, that does not really alter anything.Undercooked Sausage wrote:Piccolo eating...
What works for you does not necessarily work for everyone else. The only real canon is the manga, in my eyes.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

I really cant see it as canon at all. First off, its not in the manga so that says noncanon to me. Then there is Vegeta's brother who as conveniently never mentioned...
I guess it really comes down to your definition of canon. Canon to me is the manga and nothing else. Things like this special are just more entertainment from the DB universe.

Well, yeah, duh, but since when has anime-only filler or any of the other specials been considered canon?Saiyan-Professor wrote:

There have been some designs and characters that were filler that were designed by Toriyama, but they are still non-canon. Yamcha playing baseball in his free time was Toriyama's idea for the anime, but we never actually see him play in the Manga.
This is precisely how I feel.Zuhalter2000 wrote:Canon to me is the manga and nothing else. Things like this special are just more entertainment from the DB universe.

Well the thing is, Toriyama supposedly wrote the plot for this special.Undercooked Sausage wrote:Well, yeah, duh, but since when has anime-only filler or any of the other specials been considered canon?Saiyan-Professor wrote:

You might want to hear that podcast episode that addressed the issue of canon and Dragonball, the hosts presented some good information on that issue.Undercooked Sausage wrote:Well, yeah, duh, but since when has anime-only filler or any of the other specials been considered canon?Saiyan-Professor wrote:

Well I guess the more appropriate question is, whether the special is in the main continuity or not.

It doesn't matter who came up with it, its the continuity of the story that matters. Canon=manga. Toriyama's ideas just make it better quality story than filer crap.Yi Xing Long wrote:Well the thing is, Toriyama supposedly wrote the plot for this special.Undercooked Sausage wrote:Well, yeah, duh, but since when has anime-only filler or any of the other specials been considered canon?Saiyan-Professor wrote:

Note: These are just my opinions on this issue so don't get to worked up over it.

I likes me some cross-canoning. So... without further abuu...
Tâble is a lot harder to resolve than Buu, fo shiz.
Unless of course Vegeta had reason to think him dead, or something like that. *shrug*.
Or maybe Vegeta was the only person that knew about him among the survivors, and wasn't going to mention ... 'chevs.
... That, and I like how it helps connect a fic of mine a bit more.
.
... It seems odd to me that Piccolo and Kuririn's so-called signature attacks would be used against debris... Sokidan I can understand, but... Huh?

This special takes place between Buu's defeat and the final few episodes of DBZ. Uub doesn't show up until the Budokai at the end and Tenshinhan kinda does his own wandering thing, sort of a loner (minus Chatzou).LeprikanGT wrote:there is no Uub......and Tenshinhan is nowhere in sight.
