Bulma's Foot Massage

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Bulma's Foot Massage

Post by Bulma's Foot Masseur » Mon Jan 19, 2009 11:19 pm

In Episode 149 ("He's Here" of the Imperfect Cell arc), Bulma phones the Kame House to inform the Z-fighters of her device capable of deactivating the Androids. When Chi-Chi takes the phone outside to Krillin, Bulma overhears Yamcha say "Hang up! Don't accept the charges!", and she replies:

"Well I guess I'll still let you guys use the remote I invented that disables the androids' circuits but only if mister loudmouth "don't accept the charges" Yamcha agrees to give yours truly a foot massage."

My question is, is this a dub-only/anime-only line, or is it also present in the original manga? What about the VIZ translation?

Thanks.

-Bulma's Foot Masseur (Don't look at me like that. ;P)

Interesting question. The scene in question isn't in the manga at all by the looks of it. When Bulma phones them she talks to Kuririn only, and the whole exchange only takes about 2 panels.

I don't know if it's in the anime though. I'm sure someone else can answer that.

It's a fucking stupid dub line that was supposed to be humorous but failed miserably to anyone that has a vague sense of wit.

What does Bulma say in the Japanese anime, then? And how does Yamcha react?

Okay I'll pop in my DVD and check

Chi Chi: Kuririn! Bulma's callin' on the phone for you!
Come take it! She's sayin' somethin' about havin' found a weakness in the Artificial Humans!

All: What's that?

Bulma: That's right! No.17 and No.18 have emergency shutdown circuity...incorporated into their bodies! Once we shut down their circuitry then no matter if they they are Artificial humans you can destroy them easily right? Yeah! I just completed a controller that will do it!

Yamcha: Say, can we beat the Artificial Humans?

Kuririn: Beg your pardon, but could you bring it here right away? Right now, Piccolo-san is fighting with them...the Artificial Humans!

Bulma: Sure I'll leave right away!

The beginning of the joke must have been added dialouge that wasn't present in the original. They probably shoved it in there while Yamcha's face wasn't towards the camera. In fact they probably tossed that god awful joke in there while Chi Chi is holding up the phone.

It's still not as bad as "cat loves food"...

At least that shitty joke was short and didn't cover up any important dialouge.

I think it would be difficult to classify "cat loves food" as a joke. It's just a line that exists independent of reality and sanity. At least this foot massage thing means something.

If I heard it when I was 5 maybe I would agree with you but....no.
It's funny in a "boy that's so fucking awful it's funny" sort of way.
If nothing else it certainly is "Funi".

She was just trying to get Yamcha's limbs torn off by a seriously pissed off Vegeta.

Imagine him walking in the room, with Yamcha rubbing his wifes feet... If they were married then... On a different note (on the lines of cat loves food.) Can anybody else remember that horrid dubline of Freeza when he was stabbing Krillin with his horns on Namek? That was pretty bad wasn't it.
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)
