Another question about the Buu Saga dub...
When Goku and Majin Vegeta are at the tournament after he blows the crowd away, Supreme Kai steps between them in order to stop Goku from fighting MV. Then Goku pulls a ki blast on him! Goku would never threaten the Supreme Kai, let alone risk Majin Buu being awakened in order to satisfy his need to fight. He doesn't give a very good response either. Just, "Sorry." What was the Japanese conversation from the time Supreme Kai tells Goku he'll have to go around him if he wants to fight MV, to the point where he steps aside and says, "I'm sorry too."?

Goku loves to fight. He needed to put Vegeta in his place in order to get him to settle down again. Also, I'm not sure Goku would really care about the Kais, like he doesn't abide by their rules because they don't effect him.KorinobeEX wrote:When Goku and Majin Vegeta are at the tournament after he blows the crowd away, Supreme Kai steps between them in order to stop Goku from fighting MV. The original Goku would have threatened the supreme kai, and he wouldn't have cared about Majin Buu awakening if the possibility of a really good fight looms about. It's the FUNimation dub that makes him into a super-hero, I think that's why you thought it was unfitting.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to see the original conversation for that scene. Guess I wasn't too clear on that. I know Goku loves to fight, but I still don't think he would have gone that far. At least not in the dub.Innagadadavida wrote:

What did you mean Funimation made Goku a superhero? He doesn't talk like Batman, Spidey, or any X-Men. Or do I need to look outside of Marvel mostly?Innagadadavida wrote:Goku loves to fight. Though interestingly enough, wikipedia does put Goku under the Japanese Superhero category, alongside Ichigo, the Sailor Soldiers, and sentai teams.
When did Goku fight to save the world?
... Does Piccolo Daimao count? I'm actually not sure...
Vegeta round 1?
I think ... umm..............
Yeah, I can't think of one that isn't debatable. Cell, maybe, but he wasn't trying to win on his own...

It's not just the speeches it's the whole aura of being the leader of the group and having everything planned out, for example watch the scene where Piccolo "dies" from 1st form Cell's blast. Big difference between dub Goku and sub Goku's little monologue there to Gohan.B wrote:Goku does hae a lot of super-speeches in the dub. And then there's GT's ending narration.
(However this rectifies itself mostly when they start sticking to the script around the beginning of the Cell games stuff.)
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Wow, until he did that "Ally to good" speech I've heard quoted before, I thought that was just some parody using sound clips from some other series I wasn't familiar with.Taku128 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygd9VLoKR50Super Sonic wrote:What did you mean Funimation made Goku a superhero? Whoa. Should probably mention that I don't really associate the big dramatic speeches with superheroes due to having been big into Marvel back when I was a kid. Outside of Thor, their characters aren't known for big dramatic speeches, especially in the Spider and X-books I was really into.

Big Green is totally awesome.
A conversation consisting largely of youtube links (/ images ) with something vaguely resembling explaining coming only after like three of these "responses" in a row? So enlightening. -_-
No, yeah, "ally to good... nightmare to you!"... umm... I kinda find it awesome, but not the most Goku thing in the universe. ('Course, Japanese Goku talking about his Saiya-ness strikes me as even more odd... o.o Goku never seemed the type to give a crap either way about his Saiya-ness.
. ).
So in conclusion, let that child alone.

"Lord of Worlds" is King Kai's name. Goku says "Lord of Lords", which means "Kaioshin".Taku128 wrote:In the Viz manga he says "Sorry, Lord of Worlds." Lord of Worlds is just Viz's translation of Kaioshin's name. It's probably the same in the anime. ("Sorry, Kaioshin").
