Something cool I decided to do earlier today:
About 40+ avatars, most of them of Kid Goku, and a few of Gohan and Goten + Trunks. I'm using this on most forums where I have a 150x150 avatar size allocation, and I decided to show it off here. Not sure if I'll be downscaling to use it here, too, but I thought you guys might like to see it.
I cropped all the avatars myself from various sources. You'll probably recognize most of them--there's a bunch from Daizenshuus 1 and 3, as well as a few from the GT Perfect Files and some artbook scans I found. Since I have a lot of Goku poses that I like but find hard to choose at my leisure, I decided a random avatar script would be the best way to handle them. I like how it turned out.
This may be less "fan-created" than most other things in this forum because I didn't
draw anything--just worked with existing sources; if there's a problem with the topic, let me know.

I've considered finding a way to do similar but I've not bothered for the same reason lost was talking about in chat earlier. That will eat up your bandwidth fast. You figure, the two images I saw were 52 and 41 kb. There's 50 of them and if you assume a minimum viewing 'audience' of 100 people per week, that's a minimum of 5,000 avatar loads per week. Assume a minimum size of 30 kb per avatar and 1,500 kb (1.5 mb) per person, per week, which adds up to 150 mb per week. And that's just assuming 100 people, it could easily be much higher depending on where you go.

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

I'm not too worried about bandwidth--we've got a professional-grade, dedicated server set up with plenty of bandwidth to spare. I know it sounds like a bold claim, but Sonic Retro can take varying amounts of bandwidth topping a terabyte or more, so it's designed to be able to handle a lot of traffic. I can understand the concern, but it's not a concern for me.
But yeah, I can see how that can deter quite a few people. If it helps, there's a website laying around that does the same thing, but with their webspace; it's available for people who would like a random avatar in limited quantity and don't have their own server to guzzle bandwidth with.

Updated the number of images in the rotation--it's up to about 87 now. It'd be more if I could find scans of the third Daizenshuu's two-page art segments without huge pagefold marks in the middle. :\
I'm thinking of making the image directory holding the images in the rotator script public. Would any of you be interested in that, or am I talking to thin air? =P

Update:
Fancy thumbnail index created.
I know nobody really cares too much for this topic, but I figured I'd update it regardless in case anyone is actually
interested. For the record, the count is currently up to 101 images in the randomizer script; expect more to be added as I can be bothered.
One thing is for sure, though--I don't have to worry about variety from now on! XD
