Point Me In The Right Direction

I want make my first serious attempt at an AMV (I've done many 2 hour McDonald's-esque attempts), so I want to use my own DVD footage rather than my usual source, random torrents. I have the basic idea, but could someone point me in the right direction as to how start this process (turning dvd iso or VOB's or whatevers into workable footage is what I need mainly)?

You want to grab stuff from DVD's? DVD Decrypter is the free and easy tool you need to grab some VOBs from your shiny DVDs.

I get that part, but I'm not sure of the specifics. Like, what mode to be in, which files I need, and what to do after I decrypt it.

All you need to know right there. The technical jargon is a little daunting at first, but take it slow and in order, and it'll save your life again and again.
