Nods to Innagadadavida: Your least faves in games

Post by Thanos6 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:52 pm

From the wide and varied pantheon of heroes and villains, which ones do you try and steer clear of when you're playing a Dragonball game?

My picks:

Anyone GT. Couldn't stand the show, and I can't stand the characters either. They make good targets to unleash stress on, though, especially Pan.

Cell-saga Gohan. Definitely my least favorite character in the entire "canon." (My reasons for hating him have been explained elsewhere, so I won't go into them again unless asked)

Chi-Chi. Reminds me way too much of my own mother, even the little kid version in BT3/Sparking Meteor. Another good stress relief character to vaporize.

Skinny Buu. No real personality to speak of.

Kid Buu. After he kept handing my ass to me in Budokai 2, I soured on him very quickly. When even the writers of the guides refer to him as an "evil little rotter"...

I really do not like huge and slow characters such as Broly and Reecome. Fun thing you say Gohan from Cell games is your least favorite character. He's my favorite, and that's because he's relatively fast and insanely strong.

I don't really care about which character I prefer in the anime while playing, the most important is that I play well with the character, to be honest.

Why man?

I only hate one thing in all the games:

Omega Shenron in Budokai 3
Fighting him in the Dragon Arena with Bardock gave me a stroke. His power and ki are just insane and completely unfair. I really wanted to beat the Dragon Arena, so I had to beat him too right. It took a while though.

Agreed. I hate the big slow no-flinchy types in the sparking series especially. And I also don't play series' favorites (except Piccolo). One of my best characters in most DBZ fighters winds up being Vegeta, and I have very little respect for him as a character in the series proper.

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Gogeta
Vegetto
Gotenks
SSJ4 Gogeta
Legendary SSJ Brolly
*Insert giant character here*

Far too unbalanced and cheap.

Yeah, I don't like over-powered characters... mostly who Neptune_Kai mentioned.
... Kid Buu in Sparking!... Evil, evil, evil, evil.

Broli in Sagas... I don't usually feel the need to go on a two-second killingspry when playing Sagas.
Yamcha in Sagas... (sometimes). Just... Meh. (I'll still use him from time to time, though. XD ).

#18 and Buu in Super DBZ, simply because htey make my copy freeze.

Going back to PS1...

The villains are usually boring for me in Final Bout and UB22, the exceptions being the Buus (and Majin Vegeta, if you count him. :P ). UB22 Cell wasn't too horribly bad, but he didn't combine the rip-off moves effectively enough for me. And Recoome... he's just... ... not... interesting to play as.
I'd usually try to avoid characters that annoy the crap out of me in arcade mode (Such as Trunks and #18 in UB22), but if they're interesting enough I'll use them anyway (Kaioshin in UB22. XD).

... The Trunks I mentioned is Chibi Trunks and his Renzokudan spamming. -_-. Future Trunks is pretty nice (Now if using his sword wasn't so difficult...).

Budokai 1, 3

Kid Gohan: Kid Gohan is one of the worst character (IMO) in the Budokai series. His attacks aren't that great, and his specials suck. The only thing he has going for him is how small he is, but Kuririn is almost the same size, and is a much better character. They fixed the problems I had with him in Infinite World, where he's got fast attacks and specials, as well as a non-cinematic ultimate, which makes him a unique character that I enjoy playing as.

Broly in every game, and any Android/Cyborg/Robot/(...) in the Sparking series.

Totally understand this. Though I do kinda like the absorption-type androids (STPFU, #19's an android) since you can actually strategize with their uniqueness. #16, #17 and #18... not so much.
'Course, #16 is a tank, random select rarely picks #17, and I have mixed feelings on #18, so meh.
(I think I started caring about #16 less after playing UB22... I dunno what happened. He started out as my favorite of the Jinzouningen, but I kinda stopped caring shortly thereafter. Maybe it's because he was killed off? )

It's funny, the character my little brother gets most freaked out about when I play as in Team Battle is Arale (I always go random for all my characters).

Fair enough though, nothing more horrifying than a character who stands there laughing while you beat the crap out of them. And she's pretty fast aswell.

That's odd reason. I think Gohan earned his powers. He worked really hard in the room of spirit and time, at least in filler.
But I do agree with the power ups, Gohan gets way too many.

The way I feel about that is, what about Goku in Freeza saga?

He had a power level of 180 000, and ended up at apparently 150 000 000 with no training in between, due to zenkais and transformations. But it wouldn't have been possible if he hadn't trained before. Just like Gohan wouldn't have been able to reach SSJ2 if he hadn't trained in the Room of Spirit and Time, and for freaking 3 years before that.

It's worse than that. he had a power level of 90,000. 180,000 was with Kaio-ken. He was 90k. He took a nap. He woke up at 3 mil. He got really pissed and went up to 150 mil (according to the Daizenshuu).

I tend to avoid the really popular characters who always get a lot of exposure and attention. That usually amounts to avoiding Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan. I also don't like Goten or young Trunks.
I'm just kinda sick of seeing the popular characters all the time.

Gameplay-wise, I tend to avoid the giant characters in Tenkaichi. They're just too slow for me to have fun playing as.

I like playin as popular characters, because it's like a little prize when you're playing random.

Especially since my little brother almost always goes SSJ4 Gogeta, Gohans, etc.

Sheesh, forgot about that.

Jeez, I honestly think that's just as bad as Gohan's power up, if not worse.

But I guess I'm bias, because I think SSJ2 Gohan is the balls.

I don't think zenkis are cheap or unfair in anyway. Look, in order for a zenki to work you have to nearly die or get beat-up pretty bad. Goku had an intense battle with Ginyu, almost died in Ginyu's body, and got his body beaten the shit out of. Sure he recovered, but it took a long time. I think that power-up is completely fair. So is the Super Saiyajin transformation.
I'm beginning to agree a bit on the Gohan stuff. Yeah he got power-ups from Saichorow (miss spelled probably) and the grand-elder supreme-kai guy, but look at all the training. He lived in the woods for six months, and trained with Piccolo, who we could argue at the time was still some what evil. Then gets into that crazy fight with Nappa and Vegeta...
Sure there have been power ups, too many of them, but you can't take away all the training and intense fights that our gang has been in.

Well, I'm not so much saying it's cheap, as using it to give reasons I don't find Gohan's transformation cheap. I'd say the two are comparable.

I hate playing as superstrong and popular characters such as SSJ2 Gohan, SSJ4 Gogeta, etc.

I prefer to play with weak characters like Yajirobe and Nam (BT3/Sparking Meteor) to show that its skill, not character, that wins a fight.
