Was Gohan stronger than Goku at the end of Z?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Was Gohan stronger than Goku at the end of Z?

Post by jjgp1112 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 9:43 pm

And when I say Z, I mean before the 10 year break. Although many people argue that Gohan lost his Mystic Power-Up after he was wished back to life, I look at the Mystic power-up as just awakening his powers rather than a transformation. So with all of that considered, was Gohan basically the strongest fighter in the universe by the end of DBZ, or was Goku still stronger if he transformed to SSJ3?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

SSJ3 Goku was on par with Fat Buu, IIRC. Gohan was kicking Super Buu's ass so hard he attempted "suicide" and eventually had to absorb him. Super Buu is stronger than Fat Buu.

So yeah, I'd say Gohan was stronger, in the end. Unless I'm wrong and Goku was still holding back against Mr. Buu.

Gohan slacks off as he usually does for ten years, while Goku trains at his 'usual' pace... Yeah, I think Goku would have surpassed Gohan by then. Maybe not by much, though.

Well, Gohan might not have been "fighting form," if you will, but that doesn't necissarily mean his power level's goen down.

Really, Gohan probably is the strongest of them all, he's just too much of a pussy/doesn't care for fighting enough to bring it all out.

Mystic Gohan was definitely stronger than Goku at SSJ3. He'd had all his power brought to the surface. Assuming Goku has the same sort of limitations in hidden power he can bring out using Super Saiyajin, he probably couldn't ever get much stronger than Gohan was. If he did it would be a very slow process at that point I think. Unelss you count GT and SSJ4.

I think Gohan is stronger than Goku at the end of Z. It's pretty oblivious to for one reason: Goku can't take Super Buu.

At the end of Z, Gohan is the strongest un-fused "good" fighter. Even Daizenshuu 7 lists him as "saikyo no senshi" or something like that... something that roughly translates to "The world's strongest fighter".

Of course Gohan. "Mystic" brought about his full potential, Gohan had more potential than Goku. There would be no way for Goku to catch up to that kind of power increase.

Well, the evil Boo and the fat Boo are actually likely equal in power since they are essentially the same being in a different configuration. However the evil Boo was more adept at fighting so your point still stands.

Then again, Goku probably was holding back against the fat Boo because he did want Goten and Trunks to be the one to beat him. Heck, Goku even took the upper hand during much of his fight with Boo. But of course it was nothing compared to how Gohan annihilated the evil Boo.

So yeah, Ultimate Gohan was likely stronger than Super Saiyajin 3 Son Goku during the Boo Arc. How much stronger is debatable, however, and Goku is undoubtedly the more skilled of the two, in any event.

Well it was never officially stated that gohan never trained after boo was defeated, although him having a family and being a teacher or whatever implies he did stop. I woud have to say gohan was the stronger of the two at the end.
90% of dragonball fans detest dragonballgt. If you are one of the 10% who like GT, post this in your signature.

The question is, once you've had literally all your hidden power brought to the surface, is it possible to ever get stronger? If it is then I think it would be a much slower process. Especially considering the level of training it would take just to make you sweat at that point.

Well, I think it's safely assumed since he definitely stopped training after the Cell Games. From what we can tell, Gohan never trained when there wasn't any threat looming overhead. Seems like that's one ideology he shared with his mother.

Well, this is a different situation, but Son Goku was supposedly at his peak during the Cell Games, but then he trained on Dai Kaio's world and got even stronger. And after that he trained with Oob and got even stronger.

Heck, going back further than that, when Goku arrived on Namek, didn't he make a comment about thinking he'd hit his limits before his gravity training?

So I guess the only limitations to anybody's strength are the limits to how strong you can get with certain training.

Yeah, it's complicated.. The Super God Water was meant to bring out all your hidden strength, but Goku still got stronger beyond that. The Kaioshin upgrade seems to be different though, it brings out all your power 'beyond your limits'. I figure that at that point all of Gohan's hidden ki was out in the open, the kind of stuff Goku can only bring out by using SSJ3. More than that probably. So it might still be possible to gain strength, but there would be no more short cuts, transformations or ki unleashing.

And as I said, Gohan's so strong at that point he'd have to bench press mountains or something to get any stronger.
