Favorite Opening/Ending Dialogue

Post by SSJ2bardock » Wed Feb 18, 2009 11:06 pm

So I don't think this has ever been brought up, or at least not in my time here, so I thought it would be cool to hear which opening or ending dialogues from the narrator you guys especially liked. This goes for Japanese and English, it doesn't matter which one.

My personal favorite is from dub episode 169 "Cell Juniors Attack!"

"It is a secret we have known before Gohan could even form words in his mouth; through fights with Raditz, Garlic Junior, the Ginyu Force, and even Freeza we've caught glimpses of the child's explosive power! But like an explosion, it always vanished with the moment, it couldn't be controlled... until now! At last, the beastly power has been harnassed, Gohan has awoken."

"A warrior vanishes in a distant, astonishing light. His name, Vegeta, the proud Saiyan prince."

That's all that needs to be said as the camera zooms out from the scene. There's no music, just the fading sound of the explosion and the narrator's short words. It remains one of my favorite moments in the entire series.

Are we counting the Japanese episode titles, which were often several sentences long?

In that case, I'll nominate any episode title that completely gives away the plot that is about to transpire. I'm specifically thinking of the episode where Goku sacrifices his own life to kill Cell. Any semblance of drama is stripped completely away before we even start the show, as our narrator proudly announces: "Bye Bye Everyone! ! ! Goku's last Teleportation."

By the way, I nominate this as a "favorite" because it utterly amuses me to no end.

Well, the thing is, I think you were expected to have read the manga equivalent by that point. So it really wouldn't be a spoiler to most.

I think the dub slipped into this sometimes too, around the Freeza battle, for a little while but the Japanese is much worse at it.

My favorite would definetely have to be the ending dialougue of DBZ episode 027 (Japanese, of course). The wonderful music composed by Kikuchi Shunsuke makes it soooooo much better.

Err, that's not exactly what's being said. It's not how Daimao translates it either (I have his subtitles for that episode, since I ripped them from the first "season set" two years ago). The dialogue, per his script, says:
Daimao's translation of the end of DBZ Episode 27 wrote:Piccolo leaps in to rescue Gohan from his pinch. What will be Piccolo's fate? Hurry, Goku!
Not a night and day difference necessarily, I just noticed the difference in what I was reading and hearing (the narrator in DragonBall Z loves to use the term "pinch" or "dai (great) pinch," which Daimao consistently translates correctly from what I've seen, which was the first cue).
