Ignorance when it comes to DBZ and other Anime
I was watching G4TV this morning (excuse me, G4TECHTV... damn crossover), and the show Cheat! was on. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a show where the host (Corey Roush) helps viewers through games with tricks and walkthroughs. Sometimes they even team up with Tips & Tricks (the God of American gaming magazines IMO) to tackle the really tricky stuff. However, Corey's opening line when talking about DBZ Budokai 2 scared the fuck out of me...
"Help Goku and the rest of the porcupine patrol gather the Dragon Balls before May-jin and the other Buus."
Ummm... huh? Just what does that mean?
Later, toward the end of the section on B2, he gives thanks to someone for telling him how to pronounce Saiyan. Huh? Wait... didn't he just play the game? Does he not notice it is verbally said several dozen times within it? Why would he need help in pronouncing it?
This topic is devoted to the ignorant dumbasses who act like/are supposed to know what they're talking about. Like the kid I went to high school with who said the real name of anime was "Japanimation", and his proof of how this is true is that he worked at a video store and watched Ninja Scroll. Or the millions of reports and such that spell it "animé". Or when TV Guide says that the plot of Pokémon The First Movie is that Ash and friends must battle the evil scientist who cloned Mew.

Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

The "é" accent is how you get the Japanese "e" sound in english. I guess they actually put it on "Pokemon" to help with pronunciation, even though it sure as hell didn't help out any. That's the one word that I hear pronounced wrong the most, though I'm sure it's because PKMN is so widely known. Stupid mistake. The S wrote:Or the millions of reports and such that spell it "animé". Jade was playing with action figures of "Action Man" and SSJ Vegetto, when Ryan comes in he asks "You were playing with those dolls again weren't you?" and Jade replied "No... I was just seeing who would win in a fight between Action Man and Goku" XD It was Vegetto dammit! not Goku! VEGETTO!!! XD ....... ok I'm done complaining....

Hmmm, I must have missed that episode ^_^
I usually checkout Cheez TV in the mornings, but since they started airing 'Sonic X' I haven't been quite as interested. Yu-Gi-Ohs always good for a laugh. Gotta love those wild hairstyles.
Anyway, I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't have a specific example, but just the reactions you get from peope in general. I get idiots going "Oh my god, you like Dragonball Z?"
It's just another trial for a devoted Dragonball fan

Some kid I knew call people who watch Dragonball idiots or something and is unpopular (that ran for 10 years in Shonen Jump). Also most people in UK see it pointless or something (though me and my brother know few folks who like it!).

Its definately ignorance to not even bother to research on how to pronounce the damn character names. X-Play(G4TechTV) said Super Saiyan wrong a while back and now I bet they wish they hadent. Theyve been constantly correcting themselves when they review a DBZ game because they dont want to be bashed by fans on their boards. Theyve also made it pretty clear that they dont give a rat's ass about anime. Then again. everyone at X-Play is an ass-hole.
But yeah, about that whole One Piece/Naruto thing, there's also that argument that Naruto isnt any different than DBZ.

Sitcom mother: Blah blah blah actual plot of episode!
Asshole playing with PS2 controller: ONE SECOND MOM, I'M ON THE [/b]EIGHTH LEVEL![/b] (Space Invaders SFX, or something like that are heard)
It's why I get so much joy out of the slightest real gaming reference, or two seconds worth of actual footage. It makes me feel that not every writer wants to shit on my tombstone in supar omg hatred fury.
I think Yugi holds some sort of record, having five colors in his hair.Gotens_Girl wrote:Yu-Gi-Ohs always good for a laugh. Gotta love those wild hairstyles.

um....well....actually...."anime" just means any animation. You wanna see what you'll find in the "anime" section in Japanese music/video stores?Like the kid I went to high school with who said the real name of anime was "Japanimation", and his proof of how this is true is that he worked at a video store and watched Ninja Scroll. Or the millions of reports and such that spell it "animé".
I've come across more than one Japanese person who actually called Japanese animation "Jyapanimeeshon". And most of the time they call it "Nihon no anime" anyway.
Try asking a Japanese female what her favorite "anime" is. You're likely to come up with Winnie the Pooh as an answer.

Uhm, yes. On this continent, the Japanese word for "animation" is used to describe Japanese animation. Not really a problem, it makes sense. Over there, you have to actually call it "Japanese anime", or "nihon no anime" or whatever. No problem.
I really hate the word "Japanimation", though. It just sounds awful on the ears to hear that specific term, even if it follows a rule in the book I live by on how to be lazy: "Be lazy with your words! Shortening syllables is the key to victory."
So, omae, where do they shove their own crap, the "Japanese anime"? Same anime section, or is it jumbled in with Live Action genres? That I doubt, but it's actually how they do it at a nearby Rogers. If it can be done over here, surely so in Japan. And I don't know anybody who thinks Japan is known for their Live Action, either. It only helps my idea.

I love to hear people say Dragonball has no plot.
It's so typical of the mainstream. Everything's plot, plot, plot. Dragonball has a simple plot, but complex characters. Probably the most complex characters on any television series (which is why don't watch TV nor most animes). In consideration of this fact, this show of alien-fighting martial artists is oddly more realistic than most shows out there.
I mean, watch "Requiem for a Dream," which has little plot but is extremely subjective and character-driven, and then watch hyped and therefore contrived Hollywood plot-heavy tripe like "The Human Stain," and see which is more compelling if you don't know what I mean.
They can have their pretentious convoluted crap with "character development" mostly consisting of a good/bad guy character helping the good guys in a lame, foreseable turn of events. I'll take my emotionally kinetic Vegeta and kind of whimpy Gohan. Their straight-shooters, though. Dammit.
I'm not badmouthing Naruto or One Piece, though. I don't like them personally, but I'm sure they have some quality(ies) that draw people to them.

Anyone will like One Piece if they read through volume 9 which is the first point you see how Oda uses what he slowly and carefully weaves into the story.I'm not badmouthing Naruto or One Piece, though. I don't like them personally, but I'm sure they have some quality(ies) that draw people to them.
Interestingly, friend of mine was a huge Naruto fan. He finally sat down and read One Piece because I made him. He's now deleting Naruto stuff to make room for OP eps.

For some reason I'm suddenly curious about something, what do you think of Naruto, Omae? I'd ask about OP too, but that answer's obvious.
"Chrysanthemums will wither together with its leaves, lying beside the fiery eyes soaked with blood. Even then, your sublime status will never be shaken, even if only half of your limbs will remain. To increase the fascination within the drama, should the search for a new partner begin? If so, then head to the east. You will definitely meet the one who is waiting for you."

I like Naruto more as well. It hits me MUCH more emotionally then One Piece. OP does, at times, but not as much.
