Infinite World: GET?
Infinite World: GET?
After the disappointment of Burst Limit, I kind of fell out of DBZ games. While the game plays fine, it's just too short for my tastes and so few characters.
Infinite World seems to cover everything up to even GT, though I've yet to see anything from the original Dragon Ball. While it looks to definately have enough to do keep one interested, I'd like to know: How does it play?

Budokai 3 minus the annoying parts. (Dragon Rushes) If you liked Budokai 3 you'll like IW.B wrote:After the disappointment of Burst Limit, I kind of fell out of DBZ games. While the game plays fine, it's just too short for my tastes and so few characters.

It plays like Budokai 3. There's a few things added (aura blocking, hyper mode retooled) and a few things taken away (beam struggles, dragon rush), but if you were good at or liked B3, you'll like IW.
Watch out for the difficulty, though. "Very Easy" in IW is what "Normal" was in B3.
There's nothing from original Dragonball, but there's more from GT and the movies.

Re: Infinite World: GET?
Infinite World is essentially the Budokai 3 game-play, sans specific elements like Dragon Rush and Ki-Beam-battling, with some added effects from the Shin Budokai games and control tweaks here & there. Such Shin Budokai elements include some alternate Ultimates that play out without cinematics (Piccolo's Beam Cannon, GT Vegeta's Final Flash, etc.), the Aura Burst, and other subtle things for enhancements. Arguably the weakest aspect about the work on Infinite World is the complete copy-paste aspect of fighting arenas, which while are awesome in Budokai 3, sorta show off how rushed this game appears to be (the "destruction arenas" aren't even selectable in Dueling Mode like they were in B3).B wrote:After the disappointment of Burst Limit, I kind of fell out of DBZ games. I'll be honest, some of the obvious copy-paste stuffage notwithstanding, I really enjoy Infinite World. It doesn't seem to be as limited in as many certain venues as Burst Limit and combines probably the best elements from the original three Budokai games with newly added twists and tweaks. Some meh-ish stuff like running/flying through "rings" aside, the story mode also has many fun mini-games that branch from the primary fighting genre and allow you to partake in many non-fighting elements from the series with quite the number of characters; racing along Snake Way as Goku or others of the gang, training on Kaio's planet like catching Bubbles, manually performing specific moves at highlights in the series, chase sequences, and even learning how to fly as characters like Videl or Mr. Satan.
Make no mistake, the story mode does expand far beyond what Burst Limit gives, the most unfortunate aspect being the absolute lack of original DB material (well... you do get to battle out a couple 23rd Budokai battles, like Goku Vs. Tenshinhan and Piccolo at the Budokai arena, though those are more arcade-ish than anything). The main setting of the story mode is a map format similar to Budokai 2's, while cut-scenes are given for most notable portions of the series. Said cut-scenes are also quite impressive, maybe not as good as what Budokai 1 gave us, but are better than the small meaty portions Budokai Tenkaichi 2 supplied IMHO. The only downside from this is, outside of the fights w/t cut-scenes & mini-games, all other fights adapted from the series come off as very plain arcade-ish battles.
All that said, my point remains that this game will give you a far better expansion of material than Burst Limit, as well as arguably more innovative elements. You get the Saiyan saga (Raditz's arrival to Vegeta's defeat of course), the Namek/Freeza arc, the Androids/Cell arc, the Buu arc, the GT series (Super Baby-Vegeta 2 to Super Yi Xing Long), and a bonus arc that focuses on battles from the Bardock special & certain movies. This bonus "Other World" arc can only be accessed once you've beaten the story mode a second time and is pretty much the weakest part of it, as there are no mini-games or cut-scenes within. Once you've completed everything, the simplest part of the game will become clear, as you can then buy/unlock everything in the Capsule Shop.
One last unfortunate aspect about this game is there is no Tournament mode, so outside of "Dragon Mission" (the story mode), the "Dueling" mode, and the obligatory imported "Training" mode, the only other area of the game you can fight in is the unlockable "Fighter's Road". You can choose to either keep fighting on for more Zeni in there, or do what I did and milk the #18/Mr. Satan battle in the story mode's Buu arc over and over until you've unlocked everything. I'm currently working on "Fighter's Road" myself nonetheless, as I have found this to be a fun game and can't turn this other element of it down. On other technical flip-sides, you of course get the option for either the FUNi English VAs or Japanese voices, so that is most obviously the biggest plus~

Infinite world is infinitely lame because... well to put it simply... it makes me have to do the stupidest little mini-games... like go through all the hoops before time runs out.
That's not fun. That's just stupid.
Then the take away beam struggles, etc. I think there's not even a world tournament mode.
IW is stupid.

Ditto. Though it's fair to say, when it comes to the rings, 'they are what they are'; you either hate 'em or get used to 'em. They certainly aren't anywhere near as bad as what Superman 64 did IMO, hence why they don't hurt the gaming experience for myself as much as other areas, like the arena copy-pasting. As far as the mini-games go, I really enjoy them and am kinda disappointed we didn't get any for the GT or Other World sagas. There are some that make me grin like a huge geek (finger-shooting Piccolo with third form Freeza, Kiko-Hoing Cell with Tien, etc.), others that can really challenge the hell out of me (trying to escape Piccolo with Cell, where you have no radar for the area), while others can make me laugh my ass off (learning how to fly as Mr. Satan!). For me, they give an additional depth of sorts and enjoyable experience beyond the "just fighting" aspect that's been the primary focus of nearly all prior games, Burst Limit included I believe.Taku128 wrote:I thought they were fun...
B, my suggestion; get Infinite World. If what you've heard in this thread has made me you edgy to go for it, at least try a rent. While it isn't as good as Budokai 3 or Super DBZ from my perspective, I think it's worth playing.
