DBZ Toy Releases
With Bandai's fairly recent re-acquiring of the DBZ toy license in America, a bunch of series that up until now were only available in Japan are now making their way to the US, such as the Real Works figures (As well as some re-paints exclusive to America, nice) and now the Megahouse Gashapon sets (<3). I find it interesting that Bandai America has managed to obtain the rights to toys from a completely different toy company. If they're able to do that, there's a whole world of DBZ toys, past and present, from hundreds of different companies outside of the US that they could potentially bring over here.
So, which figures and toy lines do you think will most likely end up making their way to the US, and what would you personally like to see? I'd love to see Banpresto's DX statues make their way to the states, they look absolutely incredible, but I'm not too keen on importing my self (I've only ever imported figures once, and that was for the DBZ x One Piece DX statues, since I highly doubt they'll ever make their way here due to licensing issues). But now that Bandai America is releasing Japanese figures in the US, we might not have to worry about it any more!

Hey there! Well Realworks was made by Bandai Japan anyway, so they really didn't have to go out of their way to bring them over here. I'm not %100 sure, but Megahouse may be a Bandai subsidiary - Banpresto is for sure. In any case, the point I'm trying to make is that I think Bandai owned a piece of most of this stuff anyway, so I don't think it's really a matter of them all of a sudden acquiring the rights to all these other companies and their products.
Unifive, Popy, Banpresto, Yutaka, Plex and lots of others have all been Bandai subsidiaries at some point, or still are. It can be very confusing....
I would love to see them release a lot of the Unifive figures into America, particularly the Ultimate Evolution releases. Those were incredible, and would get eaten up like crazy in our market. Also, I really don't understand why Bandai hasn't released the Hybrid series into America... Some of the highest quality figures going, and some of THE very most sought after by a wide variety of people. Bandai makes some odd choices, thats for sure.... But then again, what company with the Dragonball license doesn't?

Wow, even with just those, there are so many possibilities! I looked up those Ultimate Evolution figures, some of them look even better than some of Irwin's best, and come with pretty cool accessories too. I'd love for them to make it over here.Oldphan wrote:Unifive, Popy, Banpresto, Yutaka, Plex and lots of others have all been Bandai subsidiaries at some point, or still are. I live on the Eastern Shore my self, and out of all the stores I've seen DBZ figures at around here (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Toys R' Us), Wal-Mart has been the most up to date, although Toys R' Us has had some good stuff too (I got the Buu Saga Ultimate Sparks in one box from them about four weeks ago, I thought those weren't supposed to come out for a while?). But Wal-Mart had the Deluxe figures and Quick Change figures before I even saw them on ToyWiz or anything.Velasa wrote:Where would the places we'd be able to purchase this kind of stuff when it gets here, besides online sources or cons do you think?

I mainly buy online honestly. Chicago is not a great place to find toys, so I don't usually go to places like Walmart to get this stuff - though in many parts of the country, you will find Dragonball figures there right now. I collect it all, but I'm mainly always looking for the import items, so online really is the best place. You may also was to take a look at a China Town on your area? Not all China Towns are filled with nothing but bootlegs, and it can be very exciting what you can find in some of them!Velasa wrote:Where would the places we'd be able to purchase this kind of stuff when it gets here, besides online sources or cons do you think?

I'm in Philly so we have an awesome little Chinatown. I just like to buy things in person every once in a while- I also feel like I keep better track of how much I'm spending when I do it in person. Online... there's so much shit I want I can't make up my mind.

Oh I totally hear ya on that one. Don't get me wrong, if I can buy on the outside, I definitely prefer it. Plus if it's it's possible to support a small local business that may carrie this stuff, it's really the right thing to do as far as I'm concerned. It's just that locating this stuff locally is almost impossible in most citiesVelasa wrote:I'm in Philly so we have an awesome little Chinatown. Thats good to know that Philly has a good China Town! Makes me want to go there even more now!

Philadelphia totally kicks ass. Our food's good, we've got Chinatown and South Street and I love this place more than I can get out in words.
I've bought a lot of sweet dbz stuff dowh there at a few stores I always visit, like this one soft vinyl/rubberish one who's like a foot and a half tall and delightfully grupy looking.
