Cover Illustration
This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was drawn for a fold-out poster in the 1990 #37 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. This issue featured the original printing of Dragon Ball Chapter 287, published on 11 August 1990 in Japan. The illustration gets full-page reprints in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations")[1] and in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History").[2]
Whish illustration do you like the most in your ten years doing Dragon Ball?
The one with Goku and Gohan riding a crazy mechanical thing that looks sort of like a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with ostrich legs. That's the only one I like.
In ten years, just that one?
Yes, of the ones I can remember. It was the only one that went well as far as coloring and composition, I think.
Now that you mention it, it looks like you accurately captured the moment that it's moving...
But taking a good look at it, it's really not that good.
— Akira Toriyama[3]
