The extinction bomb is a fictional device in Dragon Ball and its expanded universe, used by the Galactic Patrol to eradicate humans on a planet. The extinction bomb debuts in chapter 1 of the Dragon Ball prequel series Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, originally serialized in the 2013 #33 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, released 13 July 2013 in Japan.

General Overview

Jaco questions whether or not to use the extinction bomb while training the player character in Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2.

The extinction bomb (絶滅爆弾 zetsumetsu bakudan) is used by members of the Galactic Patrol at their own discretion. When the device (similar to a capsule) has its switch pressed and the device explodes, a virus begins to spread targeting only the humans (人間 ningen) on a planet.[1]

Jaco Tilimentempibosshi remarks that using the extinction bomb may be better than seeing the nature on Earth destroyed by a possible impending battle between Earthings and aliens.[1] Jaco was given permission to eradicate humanity if he saw fit, but only after performing a thorough, updated investigation on the race.[2]

The extinction bomb would kill Jaco, as well, if he were to use it on Earth.[1]

Jaco accidentally activated an extinction bomb once before, killing all of the humans on its respective planet; his senior was very angry with him.[3]

During the player's final training session with Jaco as a master in Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2, Jaco will threaten to fight for real, and even use the extinction bomb if it comes down to it (though he ultimately decides not to):[4][note 1]

今回はわたしもマジでやっちゃうぞ勝つためなら絶滅爆弾も使ってやる! ...と思ったが それをしたら怒られるので絶滅爆弾だけは使わないでおいてやろう

I'll be fighting you for real this time. I'll even drop an Extinction Bomb if I have to! Actually, that would probably upset people, so on second though, no Extinction Bombs from me.
— Jaco, Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2
