This article is about the husband of Lan-Fan. For the son of Bulma and Vegeta, see Trunks.

Trunks is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball franchise, serving as an unseen husband to Lan-Fan. The character's initial reference comes in the 1987 Dragon Ball: Adventure Special guide book's "Men's Personal History" biography boxes, in which Lan-Fan is humorously featured.

Biography

Lan-Fan's character profile from the 1987 Dragon Ball: Adventure Special guide book.

Seemingly some time after the 22nd Tenka'ichi Budōkai, a 29-year-old man named Trunks marries the 24-year-old Lan-Fan.[1]

Name

Lan-Fan's name is an abbreviation of "lingerie" and "foundation"; this is what female underwear was called at an advertising firm Akira Toriyama worked at prior to becoming a professional manga artist.[2] Fitting with this, her husband's name is also a sort of men's undergarment.

Notes

Trunks' existence is effectively a footnote in Lan-Fan's character profile data in the 1987 Dragon Ball: Adventure Special guide book, as the character is never seen or referenced in any main production material.

Though Lan-Fan does not predate Bulma or even Brief, she and her husband Trunks do predate the names of the majority of Bulma's extended family, causing a bit of overlap in name pun schemes.
