Good lord, Will the stupidity ever end? I'm almost at the point of thinking that the people don't really believe this is real, their just going with it. but judging by the comments on the video all I can do is Sigh. I'm not that smart of a person but C'mon!

My two favorite Youtube comments about Hoshi thus far

New Series Dragon Ball Hoshi Episodes 1 Real Full HD (Episode of Burdock)
I swear to god if this is not coming out in 2013 I'm beat the shit outa the person who made this vid fuck u if it's fake
This kid's lucky because the OVA will be available on the 26th October 2012 (Dragon Ball Z For Kinect).

Shit, now that I think of the OVA in DBZ For Kinect, I just remember they're going be using dubnames like:
- Bardock
- Frieza
- Goku (no Son Goku)
etc.

^ Same happened with Raging Blast 2's PtEtSS.

The dubnames shouldn't be a prob for me, or anyone, just imagine they wrote the originals and move on.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

"Bardock" isn't much of a "dub-name" considering that's the standard in Japan these days (never mind a perfectly valid and long-standing adaptation of the kana)...

I wouldn't be surprised, if that kid who makes Hoshi from every new DB feature, is in reality some mega-troll

バーダック (Bādakku), which could be equally interpreted as "Burdock" (the name of the actual vegetable) or "Bardock" (slightly obscuring the pun and closer to the actual sound of the kana). Both the /əː(ɹ)/ and /ɑː(ɹ)/ phonemes are rendered as /aː/ in Japanese, and they generally cannot be distinguished by native speakers without significant exposure to native English (preferably in their formative years).

Incidentally, a more regular kana spelling of the English word "burdock" would be バーック (bādokku), as Japanese tends to ignore the merger of the back-vowels /ɑː/ and /ɒ/ that has taken place in American English. (There are Japanese who write it as バーダック as well, but a casual Google search also seems to suggest this has been largely due to the influence of Dragon Ball itself.) With that in mind, I suppose you could always go for a rendering of "Burdack", but I doubt you'll please anybody with that one.

The character's name is written as バーダック -- that's baa - da - kku, with an extended "aa" sound and a doubled-"kk" sound.

The extended "aa" sound is the same style from names like Zarbon (ザーボン) and Tarble (ターブル), which you can see we all traditionally adapt with an "r" sound. There are examples like Dabra (ダーブラ) that we don't do it in, though -- we probably should for self-consistency, but in that case, it's more about bringing out the pun (abracadabra), and the pronunciation stays intact anyway.

The spelling of "Burdock" comes from bringing out the pun rather than the pronunciation -- his name is a play on, as should be obvious by now, burdock.

So no, the spelling of "Bardock" has nothing to do with any particular adaptation of the series by any particular company. It happens to be the adaptation that FUNimation went with for the English dub, it's not what Steve Simmons went with for the subtitles on FUNimation's DVDs, but it is what Shueisha seems to have gone with, and it's what we at Kanzenshuu have gone with.

EDIT: AND THEN JULIAN ARRIVED.

Dragon Ball Hoshi is just video clips with color replacement filters like the current brand of DBAF clips.

Note: I have never seen a single DB Hoshi clip.

As a small side note, he changed his spelling to "Bardock" for the remastered double feature.

;.; I'd be pleased by it. I was using that romanisation in my topic of name romanisations and translations.

Well that was dumb of me :P. I know what I did, though... I was going to mention Shapner's name but changed my mind, and still had the wrong kana copied. Ah, well... thanks!

That obviously doesn't count because I dislike it and it hurts my argument.

Anyway, has the "Bardock" spelling been used on any other Japanese merchandise?

I agree it's very annoying that you can't leave a comment on those videos to reveal the truth.

You'd think because Comments must pend uploader approval first, people would get the idea of Hoshi being fake.

The Hoshi uploader must have a ton of pending comments now and so they don't even care about accepting, if they do it's only those 'Hoshi is real' or something.

Even if they would approve the comments there would still be people on there that would probably just throw up that Akira Toriyama video and say ''See! that proves it!'' now I don't speak Japanese so it would be hard for me to disprove it. or they would just call you a stupid ass :)
as I posted above, I'm almost at the point of believing that these people know that Hoshi is fake and their just going along with it. that's how bad some people want a new series. I mean in this day and age it's not that hard to look stuff up and find out what's real and what's not.
but what I find funny is this ''Just imagine if the people that makes this Hoshi crap is one of our own, and he/she reads these posts and laughs'' Now let's not start burning people at the stake around here just yet.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I'll be using Burdack now instead of Burdock.

By the way, is there a possibility these kids of 'Dragon Ball Hoshi' video uploads may be getting paid for the views, comments and ratings?
