Re: What happened to Oob?

Couldnt help myself replying. I agree Goku is popular, but even Goku has been multiple times side-lined to focus on other characters. Ex: Focus on Vegeta, Gohan & Krillin in Namek Arc while Goku was hospitalized on Earth, later was on spaceship to Namek Or Goku literally out-of-action for over 40+ ...

Re: Uub's role after EOZ

I take it you never watched Yu Yu Hakusho where the Dark Tournament was most of the manga and it was great. Saying that a tournament taking a place of a real arc is mind numbing. Especially when the original Dragon Ball had four tournament sagas with with two of them being low stakes. Also, the bes...

Re: What happened to Oob?

Goku gets the spotlight because he's the main character and the emotional core of the show. Changing it to someone else, and Uub of all characters, would be a big mistake this far in. Uub was never meant to replace Goku. Uub was meant to represent thematic closure for Goku and thus DB. You say that...

Re: Uub's role after EOZ

Dragon Ball has had a pretty simple winning formula ever since the Red Ribbon Arc, really (though it was more clearly defined starting with the King Piccolo arc). Have the heroes become entangled in some sort of hijinks that causes them to come across a bunch of incrementally-powered villains who ar...

Re: What happened to Oob?

Well I just don't post here very often, and I saw this in my notifications when I logged in yesterday.

Anyway it's not like this topic stopped being relevant in the past couple months.

Re: What happened to Oob?

They haven't been successfully replaced and been the better for it. You can temporarily get away with it like when Dick Grayson took the mantle from Bruce, but it doesn't work long term. You say it's a function of popularity, but the reason Goku is popular is because the audience is emotionally con...

Re: What happened to Oob?

You say that as though other stories haven't successfully replaced the hero with a successor. The reason it wouldn't work for DB is simply because Goku himself is too popular, not because a story focusing on characters other than Goku wouldn't work. Yeah, it would have a different emotional core, a...

Re: What happened to Oob?

Kuririn brought his antagonism that turned into an eventual best friendship. Videl brought an outsider's perspective to the group as well as the madcap "will they, won't they" romance aspect to the show that it didn't have before. Pan is Goku's granddaughter so there's a built in emotional connecti...

Re: The arrogant entrance of Future Trunks and Shin to DBZ

Well, the whole point of Shin was to show off the fact that the Saiyans had surpassed the supreme god of the universe without even realizing it (basically, AT had the complete opposite approach to divinity in DB/Z as he does now). So Shin was made out to be super confident around mortals so that he'...

Re: I Prefer the Dragon Ball Super Trilogy to Nolan’s

I haven't seen the Broly movie yet, but BoG and RoF have such barebones plots that it baffles me that anyone would compare them to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. BoG is literally just "Beerus shows up out of nowhere and demands to fight the Super Saiyan God, Vegeta tries to keep him entertained ...

Re: Is young Chi-Chi problematic?

Yeah I don't think she's sexual any more than, say, young Tarzan is sexual. Her design is meant to evoke a sort of wild barbarian feel. Only difference is that she's a female and men's brains are wired to automatically sexualize the female body no matter what.

Re: Is Ultra Instinct The *Final* Or *Ultimate* Powerup For Goku?

They can only recolor Goku's hair so many times. How many colors are even left? We just need green and we'll have one for all of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Re: Piccolo needs a new power-up

He never accepted his inferiority. You do realize that the last words in the entire manga, are Vegeta saying "I will surpass you one day Kakarot", right? Super is staying consistent with the character. He wants to surpass Goku, but it isn't the top priority to him. That's Vegeta's character. That w...

Re: What if Buu absorbed Gohan first?

Buu doesn't really need to surpass Vegetto, he just needs to be close enough that his candy beam will render Vegetto helpless. I assume the only reason that Vegetto maintained control of himself after being turned to candy was because of their immense difference in power, so if the difference was co...

Re: Piccolo needs a new power-up

Piccolo has been irrelevant since Imperfect Cell absorbed 17, and that is for a reason. Only reason to make him relevant again would be for the sake of fan-service and not for any real narrative purpose or compelling story. Unless they can come up with something that doesn't feel forced, I think he...

Re: Piccolo needs a new power-up

Piccolo's treatment after the Cell saga has always been the weirdest thing. I mean...they obviously realize he's one of the most recognizable and marketable characters. He's always been heaviliy utilized in merchandise and promotional material and whatnot, yet they do nothing with him in the actual ...
