Re: What dub do new English Speaking fans go with more? DBZ or DBZKai

I'd guess it would be Dragon Ball Kai because the current generation raised on TikTok, Youtube shorts and "influencers" love their instant gratification. Sadly I don't know any stories of someone who did get into the series recently, young or old. Dragon Ball Z is a tough sell between havi...

The alternate English dub no one saw coming - Bang Zoom Super

https://www.capsulecomputers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/dragon-ball-super-promo.png https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9d/Bangzoom.png Dragon Ball has always had a fascinating history with English dubs. Allegedly first came Frontier Enterprises, for the US it was the short-lived Har...

Re: Does Crunchyroll provide sub par output... on purpose?

Is it the same team that worked at Funimation? Total incompetence. There really is no real reason to proselytizing sabotage anything on their end. With the merger I'd imagine jobs were lost on both ends "to reduce department redundancies" as it what happens with those things. Probably som...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Regarding Scandinavia one thing for any Danish fans here in particular is Dragon Ball Super is coming to DR1 this fall , and contrary to what we'd heard previously it is going to be dubbed. Hopefully it does well and Scandinavian dubs can make a comeback, although for Dragon Ball specifically only D...

Re: Sub elitism is every bit as toxic as the dub equivalent and should be treated with the same scrutiny

I don't think this situation was ever an issue of sub elitism, but rather, a hyper-sensitive dub fan making false accusations of sub elitism as an excuse to tone police a sub fan he holds a grudge against- and I'm comfortable calling it that considering you went to the trouble of digging up a 12 ye...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Dude. That twelve-year-old comment was specifically in response to Norway's attitude towards dubbing. In which case what he said back then might still be a bit over the top but... That is how dubbing is seen over here: Purely an accessibility feature for children and nothing else. Other countries h...

Welp, nevermind I was wrong its even worse in full. I do hope this is a thing you grew out of tho. ...You're absolutely free to come over and observe our supposed thriving dub industry for adults, I'll reimburse the travel cost if you can find it. It doesn't matter if your country doesn't have a du...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 14; Still Unreleased

No updates on Kai, but wanted to thank sangofe , TheQuazz , Tian and dbzforeverUK for emailing RTÉ requesting this dub air in Ireland. Some of you may feel this country is too small a market, but anything is better than nothing when it comes to this dub being released. The contact email again is inf...

Re: Does Crunchyroll provide sub par output... on purpose?

Probably the same reason the London office (which used to be Manga UK) is no longer as communicative with fans via social media or releases much interesting content on home video. Crunchyroll have so much money now they don't even try. Ironically they were probably better off when they were a piracy...

Re: Why are most people complaining about Funimation's 16:9 cropping in DBZ but not Toei's 16:9 cropping in DBZ Kai?

I've never seen Kai cropped (except for the Boo arc, of course), but I recall that I laughed about how Kai was shaping up like a mix of Funimation's treatment of Z: replacement score, cut out scenes, censorship, cropping. I'd argue Kai from day one was TOEI giving Dragon Ball Z the Saban treatment:...

Sub elitism is every bit as toxic as the dub equivalent and should be treated with the same scrutiny

As I feel the war over how myself and Adamant each come across derailed TechExpert2021 's thread I thought that issue needed a separate topic for those who wish to continue discussing it or have anything new to bring to the table. Again I'll point you towards the main points I was making. Hope peopl...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

I've defended the English dubs on here many times in the past, but these days I try to avoid getting involved in those debates. This is mostly because the debates are an uphill battle that lead nowhere. We all have our preferences, and having the exact same arguments over and over won't change them...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Now, I honestly think that quoting what Adamant said twelve years ago wasn't a good way to address sub elitism. Honestly, I agree with you and in retrospect I kinda feel bad for showing him up, as I take it Adamant regrets what he said back then and no longer stands by it. Sure, the way he worded h...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Like how I unashamedly adore the Westwood dub, which is even less faithful than Toonzai/Vortexx Kai as it has less accurate scripts, replacement music, added SFX, an original OP and ED, better actors but with rushed direction. It was what aired in Ireland for the vast majority of the show, but despi...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Also within the genre of fantasy another example might be Game of Thrones. Someone who has read George R.R Martin's books may tell someone who hasn't read them and has only seen the HBO show that adapts them "you are not a Song of Ice and Fire fan". Just because it's true it doesn't give t...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

I know no one has said you can't enjoy both a dub and the Japanese version, but my point still stands Adamant was making Statement B, not Statement A. It's not a battle I invented, I've been calling him out for making a judgement call on others. For the record here's s clear example of Statement B, ...

Adamant , I understood what you were saying perfectly fine. I was pointing out there is a difference between how you and I come across when we're stating two things are different. I'll say it again, which is the actual point people have been consistently ignoring: Statement A : "Funimation's d...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

And just like the Super Sentai/Power Rangers example from before, this hypothetical person does not exist. Nobody who only likes Robotech and has no interest in Macross is going to call themselves a Macross fan, they'll tell you they're a Robotech fan because the show they enjoy isn't called Macros...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

I'm not inclined to disagree that if FUNimation had given their dub a different name from Dragon Ball (ala Robotech, or Card Captors or whatever) fans of that version would just call it that instead of Dragon Ball . I think that's a pretty undisputable argument to agree with, and I don't see any re...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

That had nothing to do with the conversation on hand until it got weirdly brought up here? Seriously 12 years ago. Even if Adamant still holds that opinion (and to be clear I disagree with him on his opinion from 12 years ago) it's still irrelevant to what the conversation was about. I admit it may...
