Re: Do you consider Uranai Baba's Tournament part of the Red Ribbon Army arc?
Structurally, the Red Ribbon Army arc is also about Goku seeing news places and dealing with new challenges. Uranai Baba just happens to be the final set piece. Muscle Tower is an action gauntlet, West City is liking Goku visiting a town in an RPG, the Pirate's Cove is basically a dungeon, the ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I think the bigger issue is that Toriyama was a discovery writer who stumbled into interesting storylines, not to menton was a master of telling stories through fights, and so having to just outline a story from beginning to middle to end and leaving the fights as just "Stuff happens" in between ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Lately I've been seeing a rise of the notion that the only reason Toriyama wrote some good arcs was due to his editors and that the reason some if his pitched ideas suck is because he didn't have anyone to reel him in nowadays.
People in general have been underrating Toriyama's talent for years ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Fighting games and RPG's always seem to suit DB best.
Attack of the Saiyans was great, wish we'd gotten a sequel.
It breaks my heart we never got an Attack of the Saiyans follow-up. I always envisioned Gohan, Kuririn, & Bulma being your main part on the way to Namek and then on Namek ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I wish they'd go back to their RPG style of gaming of the GBA and DS era. Kakarot is a good step forward and their 2D yet 3D format of FighterZ wasn't too bad neither.

I still click on the main website periodically for the new pages,I never necessarily check this thread for updates exclusively.
That said, I only even check in when I do because I’ve been following it since I was 15, I’m 32 now and it’s mind boggling that I’ve been following a freaking fan made ...

Re: Future Trunks waiting for Cell to be born when he knows where the basement is...
The very first thing Trunks does when he travels back in time is create a butterfly effect when he fights Freeza instead of waiting for Goku. I think it's reasonable he doesn't want to poke the bear when he returns to his timeline. He knows when, where, and how Cell will confront him, which is more ...

Re: I miss when the cast had agency
I don't know if I'd call it the cast having agency necessarily, but I do miss that feeling of arcs naturally spilling into each other. Like you say, there's the thread starting with the Hunt for the Dragon Balls and going into the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, and then Red Ribbon Army arc, but you also ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 101 - Official Discussion Thread
This was a fun enough chapter, but Goku and Vegeta's relationships with fighting, training, and even themselves feels completely backwards. I just can't see Cell or Boo arc Goku acting the way he has throughout all of the Super Hero arc. It's doubly frustrating because Toyotaro keeps putting clear ...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
I overall really enjoyed the film. The animation was better than I was expecting, Piccolo makes a surprisingly endearing lead, and the action was pretty solid from start to finish. That said, I thought all the new characters sans the Gammas were pretty weak and Dr. Hedo got way too much screen time ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
I'm surprised at how much I grew to like Merus, but it helps that he's given Goku some of his best character moments in Dragon Ball Super. I really liked what we saw of their training and I loved their flashback conversation this chapter. I'm not sure how thrilled I am about Ultra Instinct being ...

And from day 1 Goku is an example the Flat-Character arc. He's not designed by nature to go through any significant change at all.
Goku does not have a flat-character arc by any definition of the term, and a character does not need to be "designed by nature to go through significant change ...

Re: The main reason why Goku, and Vegeta are so stale now personalitywise...
You can't expect further character development from characters that already completed their arcs in 90s.
Any new change would have resulted in the loss of what made them so iconic.

Re: The main reason why Goku, and Vegeta are so stale now personalitywise...
I see their characterization in Battle of Gods less as character development and more the end result of their development. I feel like you could even make the argument that BoG is a character study of Goku. Beerus forces him to confront the notion that there will always be someone better in a manner ...

Scenario: Goku doesn't train his tail enough for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai and Kuririn ends up fighting Tenshinhan.
Given Ten's at least spoken with Muten Roshi by this point, does he still reform? Or was Goku that final push he needed?
