Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff
The weirdest thing about Killa is that I don’t know of any other instance where FUNimation did that with a black character. They didn’t do that with Staff Officer Black or even Mr. Popo.
Minor characters are more prone to these quirks being added to them. To Funimation it probably wasn’t any ...

Tbf the problem wasn’t “oh they ruined this minor character “ the problem was it was racist as shitTheBigBoy wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2026 9:53 pm
Killa is such an inconsequential character that it doesn't really bother me. I mean at least people actually talk about him now.

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff
This isn't "weird", but I was watching the Buu arc Funimation dub and I really like Rick Robertson's Dabura and Duncan Brannon's Babidi. I think they are one of the few voices in the dub that aren't obnoxiously annoying (along with Dameon Clarke's Cell which I think is very good). Not only that ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
My point goes back to what people where arguing before: That they think Gohan beating Boo after sitting on his ass for hours and doing nothing would feel unearned, so they're glad Gohan's story got co-opted by Goku and Vegeta again in the end. To which I counterargue: Goku and Vegeta had several ...

Re: The uniqueness of Dragon Ball's art style in manga history
Dragon Ball pretty much dropped the cartoony style when it did become more serious and martial arts focused though
Look at the Z era and compare it to like early Dragon Ball up through at least Red Ribbon

Re: Voice actors that you want to be replaced
If memory serves in his Geekdom interview he said Blue Gender and Yu Yu Hakusho were the first dubs where the directors actually had the Japanese version on hand and they didn't really become familiar with Japanese Dragon Ball until the video games.
That always seemed…odd to me. Ian and Peter ...

Re: What if Dragon Ball was never dubbed in English?
It probably would have been a fairly well known cult classic of the 90s and early 2000s to anyone plugged into anime at the time but fade into obscurity with young generations.

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff
Don't ask me why I remember this but I pirated a bunch of random ass DB episodes while I was in college two decades ago and there's a line from a filler episode in OG Dragon Ball where Ten is asking the locations for a Dragon Ball from a man he crippled during his more villanous days and the man ...

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff
Also, maybe I asked this & someone else answered it before, but was it all 3 of the first 3 Z films that used the Saban Ocean dub scripts as their bases, or just Tree of Might?
There was no Saban Ocean dub script for the first 2 Z movies so they stuck close to the Pioneer Ocean scripts for ...

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff
So, the old Z dub came up on Twitter because Kai's anniversary just passed & nostalgic Z dub fans can't let people enjoy Kai's better dub & I wanted to ask these in a more level-headed environment.
Does anyone know at all why the Z dub as presented since 2007 has: outtakes replacing the used ...

Re: Voice actors that you want to be replaced
I don’t think I really understand the “they sound too cartoony” complaint when it comes to the “legacy cast.” Aside from the fact that Dragon Ball is a silly cartoon, I don’t think Schemmel or Sabat sound especially goofy or fake as their respective characters.
If anything, I’d say Peter Kelamis ...

Re: Would you like Dragon Ball to get an AI dub?
I feel like people have been psyop to hate AI because the powers that be (global elites - e.g. Hollywood execs) hate the idea of creative control and freedom being available to the masses. Imagine if movies/tv shows/ads could be made at a professional level by anyone that has a bit of creativity ...

Re: Would you like Dragon Ball to get an AI dub?
If a dub comes out and it's really good but you only find out at the end of the season that it's AI, would u automatically begin to hate it?
Well yes because we know it was made to screw actual voice actors and script adapters out of a job. Hating AI goes beyond “it sounds and looks like shit ...

This feels like asking
“Would you want to eat pizza someone puked on?”
I’m sure you might get one weirdo or contrarian saying yes but majority are gonna say no

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
I don’t get why Toriyama tried to do that whole “next generation” idea in the first place. Did he think Goku was getting too old or something?
I don’t know if it was Toriyama’s reasoning but he really had nowhere to go at that point.

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
I'd argue Vegeta's arc was already complete with his sacrifice and willingly dooming himself to Hell to fix his own screw up. I wish it stuck.
Or do what the Fusion movie did and have come back to help stop Boo and then return to the next world.
I do think it was necessary for Vegeta to help ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
It's not about whether Gohan won or not, it's that his story is an incomplete essay that still got turned in anyway.
Meh I’d say it’s more like an essay that was finished then the student asked for the essay back to expand on it but then gave up halfway through the second go around.
Gohan’s ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
Isn't Trunks' hairstyle just John Connor? A better argument could be made for his hair color .
I assume that’s what Jjggp meant, but also yes there’s no reason for Goku and Chi Chi’s hypothetical second son having Bulma’s hair color and wearing a jacket branded with Bulma’s family’s company ...
