Best dubbed arc or movie in the old international dubs of DB/Z/GT
Best dubbed arc or movie in the old international dubs of DB/Z/GT
Personally I can't answer with 100% certainty but definitely...
In the English Funimation dub, I think the production improved quite a bit in the Android arc with the introduction of new voice actors.
In the French dubbing, it was quite a positive element that they started dubbing some screams in the Buu arc.

The Buu arc and the original DB were the best dub Funimation had done up to that point, but considering how low the bar was, it wasn't exactly a crowning achievement.

The Blue Water dub of the Piccolo arc in original Dragon Ball was really good, it helps that by then they were using almost exclusively Japanese to English translations whereas early in the series they referenced Funimation's scripts.
For movie, Pioneer's dub of Dragon Ball Z movie 2 has to be the best English dub of anything Dragon Ball.

Buu saga and all GT represent the peak of DB's Latin American dub; they had already done a great job with most of OG and Z, but this is where they really hit their prime.

The Pioneer movies are great, but one thing I find consistently annoying and basically a deal breaker for me are the changed SFX from the iconic originals, in addition to those extremely annoying and condescending Hanna-Barbera sounds effects. So close to being an almost perfect version, ruined by something so stupid and shortsighted. Other than that I put them on par with the modern Funimation stuff, but it is funny how it took Funimation so long to release a dub on par with something from decades prior.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 4:23 pm For movie, Pioneer's dub of Dragon Ball Z movie 2 has to be the best English dub of anything Dragon Ball.

I don't understand – Toei sent them a track with the Japanese soundtrack but without the sound effects?rweasp wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 2:28 amThe Pioneer movies are great, but one thing I find consistently annoying and basically a deal breaker for me are the changed SFX from the iconic originals, in addition to those extremely annoying and condescending Hanna-Barbera sounds effects. Unless they did send it, but considered it unusable because it was in mono.

The sound effects are the exact same. Ocean just added their own Hanna Barbera esque sfx on top of it to a few scenes.M16U3L2015 wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 3:21 pmI don't understand – Toei sent them a track with the Japanese soundtrack but without the sound effects?rweasp wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 2:28 amThe Pioneer movies are great, but one thing I find consistently annoying and basically a deal breaker for me are the changed SFX from the iconic originals, in addition to those extremely annoying and condescending Hanna-Barbera sounds effects. The Movies 6 and 8 English dubs are pretty strong too, especially Movie 6. Movie 6's dub script was handled by John Burgmeier and Movie 8 was Sabat.

Even then the added SFX are barely noticeable. Apart from when Gohan faints in movie 1 and after Gohan pees in Krillin's mouth in movie 2 I'd be hard pressed to name any examples. It was just a thing Ocean did for their properties aimed at kids.MasenkoHA wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 3:58 pmThe sound effects are the exact same. Krillin trying not to get sucked into the Dead Zone is the big one I remember.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 4:58 pmEven then the added SFX are barely noticeable. But yeah it was like 3-4 scenes per movie. Not wall to wall of additional cartoony sounds. They shouldn’t exist on principle but they weren’t as intrusive as people are making it sound.

Can't find any clips of the Pioneer version on Youtube, but here is the Japanese version where you can clearly hear no SFX after Krillin drinks it.Yellow Flower King wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2026 3:49 pmDragon Ball Ireland wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 4:58 pmEven then the added SFX are barely noticeable.
