Re: Looks like Japan have finally ditched the Son "Gokou" spelling!

Dragon Ball now seems to be moving towards this senseless ideal of "brand unification". I feel it would have been less senseless if it were there from the start and Toei gave a crap about it from the beginning. If they cared about how their biggest franchise was adapted in the west, they would have...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

Oddly enough I remember WHEN the manga was at the time the anime was first announced and when it first aired: The Oozaru vs Jackie chapter, and the Buyon chapter, respectively. While Dragon Ball ultimately was popular at the time, you just never know with a TV series so using the original adventure ...

Geez, this is nothing but a really absurd decision. I'm going to send a protest letter to Dragon Ball Room in Shueisha. I'm not joking.
I agree. I personally prefer Goku and Frieza, but Funimation/ViZ's romanization decisions shouldn't have any impact on Shueisha and Toei's.

Re: Brice Armstrong (Captain Ginyu, Lord Slug) passed away

I really liked him as the narrator in Dragon Ball. I feel he was the closest to matching Jouji Yanami of all of the narrators in English Dragon Ball. Agreed, Brice really evoked this storybook quality that feels incredibly appropriate to early Dragon Ball. He knew when to evoke warmness and excitem...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

Speaking of the BLT dub, I was checking out Episode 12 just there and I find it interesting when Goku is talking to Bulma and Yamcha about how his grandpa Gohan told him to never look at the moon, and when Bulma is asking him about when he died the implication is that "you don't think you could hav...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

Oh, and the footage of Pilaf fantasising about ruling the world was cut into BLT's edit of DB episode 1, oddly enough. In this episode, it feels like it goes on way too long, though. Feels like a bit of a waste of time. My thoughts exactly! And there we have it, everyone. The first wish... P...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

I never cared much for the final four episodes that close out the Shen Long arc they just seemed so stretched out for early Dragon Ball like the first arc had to be 13 episodes. With the exception of the pinball episode having a final stretch of episodes lead one into the other feels justified. It ...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

Something to think about if Grandpa Gohan told Goku never to stare at a full moon he must have survived at least one transformation prior to his death. Every other time we saw a great ape de-transform his power was cut off one way or the other. Gohan definitely didn’t destroy the moon and it seems ...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

Great debut for the Dragon though. Love how they show him in darkness before lighting up to give that ominous feel, which is appropriate considering the wish could potentially have negative consequences in the presence of evil. This is a factor I don't think is mentioned enough, but Shenron and Por...

Re: "Stealth" Kaioken

https://www.kanzenshuu.com/manga/chp-312/ it's in this chapter, i don't know where it would correlate with the full color chapters however. According to that very page, it'd be in Book 4! Okay, it is coloured red, but that's also the very Chapter where Tien and Kaio talk about the Kaio-Ken, so for ...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 3 - DB episodes 11-15

I know it's filler, but the incompetence of the Pilaf gang leading them to forget to close the door is great. And even though it's out of bloody no-where and is probably the most bizarre thing in this first storyline (except maybe the dolphin giving Goku & Chichi directions to Kame House), I kinda ...

Again, incorrect. Buu was the being Goku thought was the strongest in the universe. As it turns out, he wasn't anywhere close. How does that ending work when he faces WAY stronger opponents after Buu?
Easy: Uub came back way more powerful than Buu.

Re: What if dragon ball was a comic book series?

I guess Piccolo is Superman too, then... Member of a dying race sent to earth to escape, he's strong, he actively deals with the "higher powers", even helping out in dealing with threats they want dealt with... You see how easy this is?) No, he's Martian Manhunter. Anyway, everyone knows that...

People still having issues on nefarious?
Possibly less so nowadays since there's been several years since A4O and the movie, although I don't know for sure as the death of the Insomniac Games Forums meant I dropped out of the R&C community.

Re: My biggest issue with Super

No, I don't imagine it. It's dumb regardless of whatever Uub's "potential" is. Goku has met beings, including the head of the multiverse, who FAR surpass Uub and whatever his potential could ever hope to be. The ending doesn't work anymore. I disagree in the sense that the story never stated what U...

Re: What if dragon ball was a comic book series?

He's the son of a dying race sent to Earth by his parents in their last escape pod. He is unfathomably more powerful than any human. The "higher powers" of Earth and the Universe consistently find themselves forced to seek out his help to deal with threats because no other creature except other mem...

Re: My biggest issue with Super

Goku's journey to Namek was only a couple days, 6 if I recall. Yeah, I thought it was six weeks as well until I realized that Goku made his way over there after Gohan, Krillin and Bulma got themselves into hot water and encountered the Frieza Force, meaning six weeks would almost certainly doom the...

Re: What if dragon ball was a comic book series?

I don't know why there's so much hate for "superhero" stories. V for Vendetta was a superhero story and that's an all time classic. I think it's more that comic books have significant challenges to the storytelling compared to the manga industry, and superheroes are simply far more common and thus ...
