Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Another thing that came to mind when thinking about a potential 4k release of DBZ, if all Funi has to work with is 16mm copies of the episodes, won't you think that once you begin to scan them at such high resolutions, there would be real diminishing returns to how much detail they could possibly b...

While some may be tempted to respond to such people with 'Who the hell cares, you nerds?', clearly a lot of people do care, and enjoy debating such things.
I think "enjoy" is too positive a word to describe those arguments.

Re: Dragon Ball's canon, and the thermian argument

I agree with ABED. The ultimate question I can derive here For me, the absolute easiest way to get an idea of what counts as canon towards everything else is to read the original manga. Without exception, what happens in the manga as written by Akira Toriyama at the time is taken as true for almost ...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much

The animation quality of the original Dragon Ball TV series, painted on cels and photographed on film, is very much on par with other anime TV productions of the era such as Urusei Yatsura. its production elements (animation, music) is distinctly 80s. I agree with this too, this is also a big facto...

Is there anyway we could get a pic of your tv screen? Or would looking at a picture not do justice to actually seeing it in person?
Taking off-screen footage almost always doesn't capture the look of being there in the room unless you really know what you're doing, especially with a CRT.

Re: GT continuation

It definitely could not have happened in the Minus timeline. Goku’s revised backstory establishes that he was sent to Earth as a toddler by his parents to keep him safe. That conflicts with the Bardock special, where it was shown that he was sent to Earth as an infant specifically to conquer it. If...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Because the grain wasn't as noticeable there, it did slightly give me pause and wonder how necessary it is exactly. Now to make something clear i DO NOT WANT TO DEFEND THIS SET! Heck i would have vastly prefered if it was there and this had been a Level Sets style restoration. But i think i case co...

How about "International Home Media" thread? Since we have so many ones for the US ones?
We do?

For me the main purpose of this thread is actually keeping track of HD releases of the original Dragon Ball, which is a pretty big deal!

Super doesn’t really work as a follow up to Kai.
How so? Outside of Yamcha playing baseball again I haven't heard of any major classic Z stuff that wasn't already in Kai.

Re: GT continuation

Even Super doesn’t necessarily follow the manga continuity to a T. According to the anime, stuff like Ginyu swapping bodies with Bulma apparently still happened, while the manga has Goku mention Mt. Paozu, which is a Toei invention. Well here we get into my weird "continuity families" idea to do wo...

Re: GT continuation

I've always had an internal sorting method when it comes to stuff Toriyama has contributed over the years and how much that stuff is canon. For example, Toriyama designed some of the elements for the Wedding Dress arc. Does that mean that arc is canon to the manga? In my opinion no: look at Bardock....

This should be its own thread. Maybe we could ask a mod to change the thread title to "The Official Foreign OG-DB Blu-Ray Rumours Thread", haha. At this point maybe we could get this thread, the 30th Anniversary Blu Ray thread, and merge them together into one "General DB Home Media Discussion" thr...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 28 - DB episode 126-130 (CURRENT WEEK)

Popo probably wants Goku to figure it out on his own instead of just telling him. Not only is it healthier for his brain to work it out himself, but it also allows the lessons to land deeper and be understood greater. This seems like it would be especially applicable for something like Ki mastery. ...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 28 - DB episode 126-130 (CURRENT WEEK)

Overall I find Mr. Popo to be really frustrating as a teacher. He's attempting to teach Goku about ki control and how to sense it in others, but it's staggeringly clear that Goku has no idea what he's talking about. Instead of berating Goku for not doing it, Popo should instead do what Gohan did wit...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much

So, only the technology? Plus I mostly mean general aesthetics that a lot of said concurrent productions had or went with. Well IMO Toriyama's idea of futurism is also rather 80s, sort of an extrapolation of The Jetsons that utilizes geometric shapes that were becoming popular thanks to computer-ge...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 28 - DB episode 126-130 (CURRENT WEEK)

Piccolo's power probably took three years to get to the point where he could face Goku. Also, as long as Goku is up in God's realm Piccolo would be unable to find him. Well what I'm getting at is more that Majunior would bother with the whole Tournament format when it'd be FAR more in character for...
