Re: If Daima becomes non-canon to Super, then what was the point?
What was the point of Daima if it's "nOn-CaNoN"?
Well, what was the point of the original anime's filler? Or GT? Or the original 17 movies? Or the THREE different versions of God and God/Battle of Gods (they CAN'T ALL be "cAnOn")? Or the four different versions of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans? Or ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 19 - Official Discussion Thread
Jesus Christ, this thread has gone on for a whopping seven pages now and at least 60-70% of the posts have been less about the episode itself, and instead focused entirely on "Gee golly gosh, I sure do wonder how Daima's gonna undo literally everything it's done so far in the one episode it had ...

Re: "Serious Dragon Ball" erasure
Even in some of those cases though, some of the older dubs/localizations for even some anime that was always aimed at an adult audience were not immune from attempts at, uh, "artificially enhancing" their "masculinity": I'm thinking particularly of Manga UK, who were exceedingly notorious for this ...

Re: "Serious Dragon Ball" erasure
I will forever maintain that Naruto and Sasuke are literally written like a romantic couple. Like, Jesus Christ, if you factor in the contributions of the anime staff to the franchise, too—especially given how much wider a reach it has internationally—there is no goddamned way this Tsuru Toshiyuki ...

Re: "Serious Dragon Ball" erasure
Of course Death Note is battle shounen: Death Note is about two twinks with terribly repressed bisexuality and casual misogyny duking it out in a battle of wits as opposed to just coming out of the closet and dating one another like normal people. That's Weekly Shounen JUMP battle manga to a tee ...

Re: "Serious Dragon Ball" erasure
It's a lot like "zenkai boost" or "Majin Vegeta" or "Mystic Gohan": a term WIDELY and WILDLY thrown around by fandoms, but having ZERO real basis whatsoever. You have to be a special kind of pretentious to get genuinely annoyed over fanmade terms. Not to mention the name "Majin Vegeta" is used in ...

Re: "Serious Dragon Ball" erasure
What about Initial D or MF Ghost? They don't fall under the "battle shonen" category.
Well, there just so happens to be a reason for that, and that reason is that Initial D and MF Ghost, just like every single one of the examples of "nuanced stories written for grown adults" I mentioned (aside ...

PS1. Vegetto EX, Nice description on friendship, you know what an Amigo is, cool, very cool. You might put a warning of foul language before you post that kind of post... some people are sensible.
PS2. I don't care about One piece... like... at all...
PS3 was my favorite console for playing rock ...

Re: Would FUNimation even have survived were it not for Dragon Ball?
Important to remember that this DID happen: FUNimation was fully acquired by Navarre in 2005 , only a little over a decade into their existence. That lasted for about five years until Navarre kinda changed strategies back to plain ol' distribution rather than also licensing, and Fukunaga basically ...

Re: Would FUNimation even have survived were it not for Dragon Ball?
I also think people only stuck with the Texas cast in the early days of the inhouse dub because it was Dragon Ball. If it was any other anime Funimation would have crashed and burned.
They may have still started out dubbing other shows with the Ocean cast but once they hired local talent anime ...

Re: Furuya Tooru (Yamcha) Admits to Physically Abusing Woman He Had An Affair With
From the article:
Voice actor Tōru Furuya stepped down from the roles of Sabo in One Piece and Tōru Amuro in the Detective Conan in June, after Furuya acknowledged a May report by the Weekly Bunshun magazine regarding an affair he had with a fan
That's an understatement to say the least- The ...

Re: Would FUNimation even have survived were it not for Dragon Ball?
Would the United States federal government have been able to fund communism-destabilizing military coups in South American countries AND mass incarcerate a disproportionate percentage of ethnic minorities in order to maintain the free labor and disenfranchisement that sustains capitalism without ...

Would FUNimation even have survived were it not for Dragon Ball?
To preface, I'm not referring to their entire company history since 1994; DUH, they wouldn't have survived without Dragon Ball, they only got the license to it through sheer nepotism first of all, and on top of that it was literally the ONLY licensed property they had until they started slooowly ...

Why has a pro wrestling call-out ("VegettoEX! YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN BRUTHUR!") thread from a year ago suddenly been necroed with an absolute verbal-murder ultra combo from Kunzaits #1 and #2

And the final irony: I've listened to these fucking morons go on and on and on and ON endlessly now for the past like 8 fucking years at least about "everything is too woke now" and how "the 80s and 90s and 2000s were the pre-woke days" and so on. In forums and spaces like this one where vapid ...

Re: "The Artificial Humans are too strong, it doesn't make any sense!"
Super has a lot of egregious power moments but I honestly think it's fine and believable that Freeza didn't train before, at least not at all seriously. Him and his whole army weren't at all masters of martial arts or in tune with spiritual techniques, and the strongest of them are described as ...

Re: Which English dub terms are legit translations and not just Funi shit
Kakarot. I really hated to admit this one. Especially because Vegetto makes it OBVIOUS Kakarotto was the correct choice... but is it? A Spain dub fan told me its the legit intended translation. I tried to argue... but as little sense as it makes, keeping it literal is NOT always the right choice ...

Re: Dubs that could have been but weren't
U.S. Renditions had the series at one point, but never did anything with it. Who knows if they would started at the Pilaf saga or go straight to Z? I could see Tom Fahn as Goku, Melissa Fahn as Bluma, and Steve Blum as Vegeta. Those actors did voice work for U.S Renditions as seen with The Guyver ...
