Re: Dragon Ball Dragon Box have redubbed part

I make it: Itsu made sonna mittomonai kakoishiteiru tsumori da! Only part I can't work out is "kakoishiteiru", or it could be "ka koishiteiru". " itsu made sonna mittomonai kakko o shiteiru tsumori da! hayaku saisei shiro! " Translated extremely literally, it's "How long are you planning to stay in...

Re: Is anyone still hoping for an international Blu-Ray release of TOEI's movie masters?

Certainly... as long as they give us the footage as it looked in the streaming version and not the over-filtered, slightly censored version Toei released on BD. That really was one of the most aggravating instances of them screwing us over; Release a version with excellent video but poor audio on st...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

In general there are very few examples of a long running weekly anime series from the pre digital era that have been remastered for blu ray in Japan. Seasonal shows like gundam have been remastered but nothing of the hundreds of episodes variety. The only ones I can think of are yu yu hakusho and R...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Even Toei didn't screw up like that when they cropped the image for Kai. Toei actually moved elements of the image around in their version. Look at Dende and Piccolo, they have been moved up in their respective frames. So yeah. For all the things Toei messed up with TFC, for this one moment they ac...

No way is that first screencap unaltered. It isn't green. And I remember specifically hearing that FUNi did not do anything to fix TFC's hideous color cast.

Re: The Broli movie will use dub names in its subtitles, at Toei's request. Could this become the new "standard"?

Bad news. The Manga UK Version also uses Dub Names in the Subtitles. https://www.twitter.com/MangaUK/status/1117790594552692738 On the plus side, the Manga UK guy I know informed me that they fixed the mistranslated Paragus line I reported! This is all so bizarre. By all accounts it's looking like ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

You know what FUNi should do? And feel free to send this on to them because I feel like I, a non-American who can't even play Region A BDs, am not the right person to tell them so... Do a super-quick, bare-bones release of their raw film scans, cropped no more than what's necessary to avoid the dama...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

But aren't the Japanese Pokemon names plays on words? I don't mind that since it perserves the spirit of the names and contextualizes it for an English speaking audience. I don't think the same can be said for Dragon Ball's names. Pokémon names, certainly... But the English version of Pokémon does ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Seriously now, who the hell at TOEI came up with these moronic English titles? Explosion of Dragon Punch ?! :? Movie 13 is generally translated as "Attack of the Dragon", FUNimation's title is "Wrath of the Dragon" and the Japanese one is, if I recall correctly, "If Goku Can't Then Who Will?!" So w...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

So I'm kind of way overdue on this due to how fast the posts are piling up in this thread, but I would just like to point out to anyone who is comparing the framing here to the Dragon Boxes that... the Dragon Boxes were given a shot-for-shot reframing based off the original negatives. That framing w...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

The truly sad part is that this is still better than what we currently have . I mean I'll take the Dragon Box over this... but it's better than any readily available release just by virtue of at least being in the proper aspect ratio. But yeah. It looks like crap. It fixes the single most deal-break...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

All things considered, if this release does indeed use the same film prints and we have to deal with some darker detail being lost... Yeah that would be a bit of a shame but I don't think it would be a dealbreaker. While I haven't looked super close at how the Levels looked, overall what I've seen i...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

They used the Dead Zone opening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChAk8wD44aw. You can tell by the Eirin code on the bottom right when the Z logo pops up. https://www.kanzenshuu.com/movie/dbz-01/ I just checked the season bluray https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzZ8s8ka_Eo and it seems they used the a...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Honestly, I have a hard time seeing the credits, NEPs, and Japanese titles as a serious issue like so many tend to cite them as... Like, I would prefer them to have both Japanese and English title cards so when I'm watching in Japanese, I don't have two different episode titles popping up every epi...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It’s certainly not as brite as Kai, and even that I don’t mind. But I’d say the Dragon Box sets got the brightness down fine enuf. It’s blurry becuz it’s 480p, so it’s just an inevitability that I accept. My only complaints are: blues are too green, yellows are too faded, and the next episode previ...

Wait, you want NEP's THEN end credits?
It's been well documented that this was how the show was originally presented during its first airing. So if we want something authentic to the original experience, Episode > Preview > End credits is the order we should have.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I don't want any regions to be left out, especially if we get the best sounding recording of the Kikuchi score ever, because we really need that after years of only having that mono track. We might not be getting that specific mono track... but the Japanese version of DB and Z will never not be mon...

Re: Bruce Faulconer returning to compose the score for DBS?

Anime dubbing as a whole has moved past replacement scores. Literally the only example I can think of that still regularly does it is Pokémon, and even there, the latest movie kept everything except the ending theme song intact. I see absolutely no reason why FUNi would go back to changing the musi...
