Re: Is Final-form Freeza is his original form?

I generally agree with rereboy, and Freeza's statement that his last form is his true form is generally why. But just to play devil's advocate, one bit has been nagging at me. Freeza draws a distinction from what Vegeta says. But Vegeta says some beings transform to conserve their ki and blend in, a...

Re: If an accurate re-dub surfaced, would you watch it?

If there's a dub available, why would you consciously choose to watch it subtitled? (Other than "Hi, I'm a Japanophile!") Assuming that was a straightforward question (the tone of your post lost me a bit, as sarcasm over the internet sometimes can), there are plenty of reasons. Here are t...

Ha, I wonder if some words would throw you off. I mean, it would be like forcing your brain to "smart text" and hoping for the best!

Re: If an accurate re-dub surfaced, would you watch it?

No, dubs are solely for children here. Any and all attempts to produce a dub targeted at an older audience has been met with protest and massive ridicule. I think this may be a region thing. In the US, for example, we have a robust voice acting business. Especially in the modern day, there are a nu...

Re: DB Movie One Comes Back To DVD, Says Otaku USA, Rightstuf

@ Tony- I mainly mentioned live action stuff to show two the two different styles in live action (sitcoms tend to let characters age, soap operas love the time skip + recast solution). As a counter example to the Boy Meets World thing, Michael on General Hospital was put in a coma as a pre-teen and ...

Re: DB Movie One Comes Back To DVD, Says Otaku USA, Rightstuf

While that's true, it never holds up in fiction and is well within the zone of suspension of disbelief. The vast majority of the time a "kid version" of a character will have a completely different actor/actress. Nozawa continuing to voice Goku as an adult is far more an anomaly than the ...

Re: DB Movie One Comes Back To DVD, Says Otaku USA, Rightstuf

What does one's size have to do with voice? Have you ever heard Mike Tyson talk? People just love their stereotypes, I guess. I think the divide on "how Goku should sound" has a lot to do with general introduction to the character. If you tend to watch DB in order, when he was a child befo...

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?

I'll say this much to back up penguintruth- a new dub wouldn't be detrimental to the series. They re-recorded the japanese version, and replaced most of the secondary cast in the Freeza Saga, yet that's still making bank for Toei (and coming to the English-speaking territories now too). I'm a big Ev...

Re: What have the American/UK Dubs... DONE RIGHT?

I'd say Vegeta theme music, as opposed to relative silence, during the Final Flash scene against Cell. I could do a list of VA's I've liked between the different versions of the dub, but it wouldn't serve much point. I will say Chris Sabat's Yamcha in DB and Path to Power. For a voice that was on my...

Re: DB or DBZ: Which is better?

This topic is filled with so many cop-outs. Yes, we know that the series is one big continuing story. But if I asked you about one of your favorite television shows and wanted to know your favorite season, would you still answer the same? Or what about a film series, which is your favorite movie? W...

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?

I'm pretty sure at least Yusuke said shit a couple of times. He said damn it fairly often, and used the phrase "piss me off" (as in "you are/this is really starting to piss me off").

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?

I think mild cursing worked well in Yu Yu Hakusho's dub. It's darker in tone, sure. Still, I could just as easily see Vegeta, a genocidal maniac, tossing out a shit or damn here and there as I could see a street punk like Yusuke.

Re: DB or DBZ: Which is better?

I've very much grown over the years to love the viewpoint that trying to make the distinction that much greater by asking about preference between the two really does each "half" a huge dis-service. You can't have DBZ without DB. I'll agree with this. When my girlfriend decided she wanted...

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?

I'm loving the comments from the cast, and the feedback in general. I just burned through some tax return cash picking up the first two Dragon Boxes and the second and third Dragon Ball sets (was falling behind), and I'm thinking I'm going to pick up at least the first Kai set to check it out. That'...

Re: DBZ Kai Dub - Ideal Recasts?

This. His role as #17 is the one to compare his future performances too. Many actors can be recognized in other roles. Steve Blum is one of my favorite VA's (going back to his role as Agito/Guyver III), but one can't deny that his Roger Smith sounds almost identical to his Spike Spiegel.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?

I've never heard anyone ever having a problem with Gohan's voice in the FUNimation voice. I've heard people hate the voices for Vegeta, Freeza, Krillin... but never Gohan. I don't know why he's been re-cast. Oh well, perhaps it's for the best... I have heard, and have, complaints. I generally blame...

Re: DBZ Kai Dub - Ideal Recasts?

Well, to be fair, Linda Young's voice she used for 4th form Freeza in the episodes she redubbed on the Season 3 set was actually really badass. She did his voice in a very calm and cool manner. It's a shame that she only did two episodes for 4th Form Freeza until they stopped having her redo her Fr...

Re: DBZ Kai Dub - Ideal Recasts?

Son Goku should no longer be the light in the darkness who protects the universe for truth, Justice, and the American way. He's just gonna be a hick who likes to fight. That's how he should be directed, and I think with good direction, Schemell could do it. Good direction Fixes a LOT of things. Jus...

Re: DBZ Kai Dub - Ideal Recasts?

Are all the people citing the Ocean Cast change as a reason why dub fans wouldn't be put off completely ignoring the past 10 years just for the sake of their argument? Not that I'm taking a stand for either dub, but can I point out that this is a one-sided view? The average viewer is going to be ok...
