No one's arguing Chi-Chi never acted like a 'bitch' in the manga I assure you. The point is just cuz she had one or two scenes of the likes in the manga doesn't mean they have to make it her whole character. It's just flanderization (making a character defined by a single trait/quirk).Relenanator wrote:I don't know why everyone says that Chichi is only a bitch in the anime and that she's written incorrectly when she wasn't nice in the manga either.Spoiler:

No I'm just tired of everyone saying that Chichi is SO much worst in the anime then the manga. It's not just on here either it's everywhere on the internet. Sure, maybe it was wrong for the anime to make Chichi nothing but an obnoxious complainer based on a only some of the manga but quite frankly other then being faithful to Goku and putting up with his crap she doesn't seem to have much character outside of yelling and screaming about something. At least that's how I feel.DBZAOTA482 wrote:No one's arguing Chi-Chi never acted like a 'bitch' in the manga I assure you. But Chi-Chi is defined by a single trait (a couple of traits, actually, even in Super, let us not exaggerate). She always was, ever since her re-introduction in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai.DBZAOTA482 wrote:No one's arguing Chi-Chi never acted like a 'bitch' in the manga I assure you. She's chewing out her good-for-nothing, dead-beat of a husband for wanting to train their 6 year old child for 3 years to fight a bunch of killer androids who had wrecked the future when they could've easily pre-empted the attack by going along with Bulma's plan. I see nothing wrong here. In the manga, whenever Chichi gets like this, it's out of concern for Gohan's safety and Goku's stupidity. In the anime, she constantly focused on Gohan's studies and both her filler lines and Watanabe's voice take those traits up to 11.Relenanator wrote:I don't know why everyone says that Chichi is only a bitch in the anime and that she's written incorrectly when she wasn't nice in the manga either.Spoiler:
Also, she relented a few pages afterwards, so again, I see nothing wrong here.

That scene's not even that bad. It's a pretty funny moment of the manga breaking character to actually point out what a terrible husband he is ("Have you ever made a single penny since we've been married?"); he's just come back and he's already asking to take Gohan away from his studies again (and, we know, from an earlier scene, for a relatively elective reason). Chi-Chi saying she cares more about Gohan's studies than the planet is just one of those funny argument moments--she's not letting Goku off the hook for his very leading question.Relenanator wrote:I don't know why everyone says that Chichi is only a bitch in the anime and that she's written incorrectly when she wasn't nice in the manga either.Spoiler:
But yeah -- I very much read that scene as the manga poking fun at some of its own conventions. Chi-Chi's the straight character there until the final panels.

I'd love Chi-Chi telling Goku to act like a responsible adult but her being a total bitch is what really makes me feel sorry for the guy. First she spends enough money (in a matter of days apparently) that would be more than enough to provide for her great, great, great grandchildren let alone Pan. That alone puts her on real shaky ground already but then Goku actually does what she told him to do and blatantly threatens to kick his ass at the end if he comes back home. If Goku was intentionally avoiding his job I could see her point, but the guy stopped working because his tractor broke and wanted to find someone who can fix it, not that I think she'd believe him even if he told her.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Funny thing is the writer for that episode tried to give Goten and Trunks a mother-son relationship with Videl in the first episode.ekrolo2 wrote:I'd love Chi-Chi telling Goku to act like a responsible adult but her being a total bitch is what really makes me feel sorry for the guy.
