Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
So Master Roshi's relevance in the series pretty much ends with the Saiyan saga. Roshi being there to witness Raditz debut and watching the Saiyans decimate the fighters was where his role was coming to a close. Since getting left behind when the Namek saga started Roshi faded further into the background with every passing saga.
Does anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went with Bulma and Krillin to Namek? I recall Roshi even saying he would like to go with Bulma but I think she told him not to. It would have kept Roshi relevant to the story and he could have helped Bulma out when they were stranded together.
I also feel like Roshi should have witnessed Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan.

Re: Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
Roshi's combative viability was already practically finished by the time Tien showed up and he is wwwwwwaaaayyyyy out of his league by the time they get to Namek. He served his purpose and bowed out of the fighting so the relevant people can deal with it.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I dunno about 'should' have, as the team that we do get to Namek seems to work pretty well...but yeah, I could definitely see how it would have been enjoyable to have him along for the ride. He could even have gotten a boost in power (maybe not as much as Kuririn and Gohan, but still) from Guru and kept up at least a little more with them. There's also humor potential with him having a similar reaction to Bulma at the fact that there are no female Namekians.

He was retired the moment he died against Piccolo Daimao. He was already paving the way during the 22nd TB, saying how was time for the new generation to take over.
He went away gracefully, everyone respects Master Roshi for his contribution to the warriors.
Pretty sure the suggestion of going to Namek was for perverted reasons.

I agree with others, the villains from the start of DBZ and onward were out of Master Roshis league. He had his time to fight and defend earth when King Piccolo took over.

The only way I could see it working is if he was restricted to comic relief, because as much as I love the guy, he has really been outclassed by pretty much everybody at that point in the series, as others have noted.
Having said that, yes, I could see a lot of very funny comic relief opportunities!

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

The only way I could see this working (power-wise, I mean) is if he already trained with God and Mr. Popo for the Saiyans just like Kuririn & co, and achieved a very respectable battle power of 1,000 or higher. Otherwise, it'd be pretty pointless to be honest.
Re: Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
Maybe. He would not have been able to fight anything, or take Guru's gift since he's centuries past his prime and his potential would have went with age, but he could have been the team's center. To Krillin he would be that person he can confide in, as leadership would and sort of did take its toll on Krillin. For Gohan he could effectively take over as a second mentor while Piccolo is dead. and for Bulma he would be the reason she doesn't walk around in her panties on the ship, as well as protect her when everyone else is fighting. Lastly, he could distract Freeza by performing the Mafuba - not to contain him and die, but to have him swirling in that vortex and give Goku time to finish the Spirit Bomb, for lulz.

Not really, he was already fodder by the 23rd Budokai by his own admission so his insertion into the Dragon Ball hunt on Namek would be nothing more than bad fanservice.

Re: Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
No. He wouldn't be much help to Son Gohan and Kuririn, besides everyone on namek was completely out of his league.
Re: Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
I never really thought about it but yeah, I guess he should. He would be weaker than Krillin and Gohan but they were completely outclassed by their enemies in Namek anyway and, in terms of experience and wisdom, Roshi would be greater than Krillin, Gohan and Bulma which would have been particularly useful in Namek due to them being outclassed so they could have used some advice and wisdom regarding strategy. Not to mention that, even though Roshi was weaker than the other two, since Bulma was just a regular human, Roshi's power would have been welcomed in helping protecting her from lesser threats. With Goku incapacitated and the rest of them dead, Roshi really should have went. Him being retired shouldn't stop him from helping in things regarding which he can be useful.precita wrote:So Master Roshi's relevance in the series pretty much ends with the Saiyan saga. Re: Anyone else feel Master Roshi should have went to Namek?
No, he had a great full arc by the 22nd Budokai. He left the ring because he was confident the next generation had arrived and had surpassed him. He could now finally fully retire. I like how Roshi was used from then on. He's the perverted wise old sage. You can use him for a joke and either give advice or give his opinion on matters of martial arts. When Roshi gives his two cents on a battle, we've seen enough from him to know that his opinions carry weight.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

He's weak as shit and can't even fly. I can't see him as anything but deadweight during the adventure parts of the saga or the fighting parts of the saga.

No. Once the Saiyans had arrived, it was over for Roshi as far as contributing to the plot.
