Well they say that there has to be some kind of standard to determine what's canon or not, so if there is no official policy then they have to make one up, I guess.rereboy wrote:Fans can't actually declare what is canon and what is not, no matter how much sense it makes to them and how much they would want to.Polyphase Avatron wrote:
Some forums I know of go by the standard that 'If there's no official statement of what's canon or not, then only work directly written by the original creator of the franchise is canon'.
Some others go by 'Everything officially published in any capacity is canon unless it's specifically declared not to be'.
The only people who can establish canon are the people actually responsible for the franchise.
Those fans are merely confusing their expectations for what would or should, in their opinion, be considered canon, with actually established canon. Or they just mistakenly think that they can, somehow, declare or establish what is canon for a franchise just because they are fans of it.

After reading some reviews and giving an extended thought, i think DBMinus is not a bad story, it's mostly consistence with the manga and makes more sense that Episode of Bardack did....now if you excuse me i will be hiding in a far off planet somewhere in the universe.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

That's what you think. I didn't think it was that bad, just that it paled in comparison with the Bardock special. Why don't you folks just wait for toriyama to say himself regarding the matter. Though since the beginning of anime japan has released many anime and manga that were adapted from eroge, galge , rpg, otome game, even doujin that has a lot of route. So it's in their nature the author think it's common occurence to have a lot of version. Since the source material itself many of them has no canon route and has been released in many / multiple mediums in japan.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Ok people I speak to seem to hate it for the wrong reasons, we are not 17 Episodes in and I'm still reserving judgement as we haven't gotten into the meat of the series.
ME PERSONALLY am the biggest DBZ fan I know, I'm 19 and My cousins got me watching from very young and since then its been a massive part of my life, I will NEVER abandon it no matter how much of a left turn it makes in my eyes BUT that doesn't mean I cant critique it,
What I don't like about Dragonball Super
1) The Transformations
This is a very Lazy comeback for DBZ, We wait SUCH a long time and we get The Super Sayain God looking like a less exiting version of Kaioken? I'm sorry but splashing a bit of red aura around him is not enough for that long of a gap.
On top of that we continue rehashing forms with Super Sayain God Super Sayain (Super Sayain Blue) not only was it a silly name but now it's just the spiky hair of an ascended Sayain but BLUE, like really? two transformations in and nothing new. I Would take SSJ4 any day, that was one of the things GT did right in my opinion.
Scratch that, Freeza, He returns and his new transformation is THE SAME but GOLD, which brings me to my next point.
2)The Villains
Don't get me wrong it's not like Beerus isn't cool as shit and so is Whis, but so far they haven't REALLY proved to be like villain villains if you know what I mean, So far we have had one TRUE villain and that's guess who? No one new, Freeza for the like 3rd time (4 if you count GT), He got defeated by Goku, Then came back a robot and got sliced up by Trunks, and then you guessed it back again in Dragonball Fukkatsu No F with a new .... I mean recolour,
3) Relevance
I feel like since Goku and Vegeta have become GODS, all of the characters we have invested in and loved have little to no relevance any more, Like really, they can probably get killed in a Wink, the gaps are waaay too far apart, literally worlds apart.
Back in Dragonball Z there were small details that made ME personally love the series, I wasnt there for just the fighting I was there for the story and little character developments here and there. For example
Gohan Turning into an Ascended Sayain (SSJ2) in my opinion The Best Moment In The Whole Of Dragonball History, The fact that at that time he was Way stronger than Goku brought variation to the show, the signs hinting that Gohan had this secret power since he was a baby, (Head butting the tree, Head butting Raditz, (DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON HOW THEY RUINED HIM) Holding his own against Garlic Jr)
The Uncle like figure Piccolo was to him
Bits like Trunks going SSJ for the first time, "I guess I'll go... SUPER! HYYAAA!" thats was crazy. And Goten being like "Since mom's not around is it ok if become like you, with the gold hair and the super strength"
The whole eeriness the start of the Cell saga had and the Garlic jr saga had and the Androids, the feeling that there was a real Threat. (and Garlic Jr's hideous trousers and all that Vampire stuff)
Another thing is that SPOILER ALERT in the Manga, Whs speaks of the other universe having alternate versions of them similar to how Beerus and Champa are, If this is the case, this is Rehashing TO THE EXTREME, I mean COME ON NOW.
I could go one but this would be like 20 pages.
Don't get me wrong I do like a lot things about it like
1) The art style is gorgeous, for all you people saying that you prefer the old Art, I do agree but it doesn't make this any less likeable, its Dragonball Super and it's 2015, of course they are going to make it look newer.
2)The Multi-verse, The fact that there are 12 more universes is awesome and keeps us engaged, The only thing is I feel like we started too high up, we have already met Beerus The God Of Destruction of the seventh universe, he said to be the most feared among many of the gods,
3)A little Detail, Although there hasn't been much, from what's been shown is cool, for example when they were fighting Freizas army he states that Gokus son could wipe out the entire fleet with a single swipe or blast if he was so inclined,
We also see that when they do fight, Piccolo is also a cut above the rest when it comes to combat as he should be.
The small light hearted scenes are also a joy to watch
4) New characters, They are pretty cool and well done characters if you ask me, Whis being my favourite, Beerus, Champa(even though it feels like another rehash) and his guardian, the new Galactic dude (Forget his name)
All in all I don't like as much as I would have hoped but its not all bad, The People who say they Love it and say that anyone who doesn't like it are just Nostalgia fags and ya yadyada are people who jumped on towards End and when KAI aired, The people who I consider REAL fans like me have been watching since DragonBall and Toonami and they either agree with me or see exactly where I'm coming from.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Here's one of mine. I don't think the Boo Arc ruined Gohan. To be honest, Gohan was never that great of a character. Now before people start firing shots at me, let me explain. I don't hate Gohan. I just think he doesn't have much of a personality. On paper, Gohan should be one of the most developed and interesting characters in the series. He's the son of Goku and he has the potential to far surpass his father, but he doesn't want to fight. He just wants to be a scholar and live peacefully. The fact that he has to be strong to protect the world is highly interesting. The problem is, his actual personality is lacking. He's kind and brave, and he starts off timid, and even by the time of the Cell Arc, he's still somewhat hesitant about fighting, but we don't see him interacting with the other characters that much. Aside from his bravery and how he needs to be saved a lot, we don't know Gohan that much, until the Boo Arc.
On the other hand, Goku practically oozes personality. He's kind and brave, like Gohan, but he's also dumb as a stump. He's completely unfamiliar with modern technology, proper social norms, or how to tell the difference between male and female! But he's completely naive and innocent. And the way he tackles all of those issues in his unique "Goku" way is both hilarious and endearing.
Adult Gohan gets a lot of flak for slacking off on his training, for being a nerd, for Saiyaman, but guess what? He actually has a personality and quirks. Gohan didn't interact with kids his age growing up, so once he does, he's socialy awkward. He's unused to dealing with like age peers, and the fact that he's dealing with teenagers makes for even more awkawrdness. But he's still naive and innocent about it, like his father. So no, I don't think the Boo Arc ruined Gohan's character, since it's the first time he really had a character.

That's pretty much where I stand to, though I might possibly have Dan Dan behind We Gotta Power, or at least have them roughly equal...hard call, really. Overall though, I found Hiroiki Takahashi's work on the opening and insert songs for DB to be a lot better than Kageyama's work for the Z era of the franchise. And that's not a knock against Kageyama, he's a great singer and I still enjoy his work - but he's never really been the 'voice' of DBZ musically for me, not in the same way he is for a lot of fans anyway.Doctor. wrote:I agree with this too, though I also like Cha-la.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:Makafushigi Adventure > Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku > We Gotta Power > Cha-La-Head-Cha-La.
At least Takahashi wasn't completely forgotten about though, I guess. I was so pleased when they got him back for the Wii game's opening.

Unpopular opinion,at least throughout the DBZ online fanbase,...-Beerus is poison to dragonball. Like everything since battle of gods, the movie itself included has been a chore to accept. Recolors, plot holes, and character nerfings everywhere...and don't get me started on the new animation they use since Battle of gods (vomits in mouth a little bit.)
Any post before 8/7/2016 isn't mine. This account was a gift from someone who thought the account was already banned. Saved me the trouble of making a new one haha XD

I adore Makafushigi Adventure too. So adventurous and fun! AND its truly a theme fitting of a Chinese Legend.
I guess its because we Latin Americans give the first Dragon Ball anime the love it deserves lol.
