Why so much dislike to the show making fun of X character ?

It seens that a group of fans dont like the series making fun of some of them, the prime example being Vegeta in BoG and some episodes in DBS (some going to extreme BS of accusing it of being ooc), other candidates (with probably less backlash) being Kuririn, Gohan, Piccolo.

Why so much rage to that ? Is making fun of them inherently bad ? Why cant the show make fun of them ? Is it because the character is Badass (this word is absolutely cancer) and should be always respect as such and never break the status quo ?

I disagree. Raylan Givens, Dean Winchester, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Piccolo, and Goku are badasses. I'll say that again and again.

Did BOG make fun of Vegeta? I assume you are talking about him dancing and singing, but I don't think that constitutes making fun of the character. That's fine once and a while, but if they want a character to be "badass", it's not a great idea to go to that well too often.

I think there's a line between simply being the butt of a joke and outright being disrespected due to a poor representation of their character in comparison to what they were before. The thing is, some fans, especially some SSJ2 Gohan fans that grew up on the FUNi dub, think that their favorite characters not going on a mass murdering spree on intergalactic criminals with their "SUPAH RAGE POWAH!!1!111!" is an insult to their character. It basically comes down to an overexaggeration from people who don't understand that humor and light hearted gags are just as central to what makes Dragon Ball the franchise it is as all the fighting.

Vegeta taking Whis to the restaurants was cringe worthy. I was okay with chef Vegeta as well and I'll admit that I enjoyed Vegeta trying to properly crack eggs.

I dunno. People are fairly uptight about the gags, but they have a point in that they just aren't all that funny sometimes. The unfunny gags are the only problems I have with Vegeta in Super though.

Awkward!Vegeta is hit or miss with me. At best it's fun, at worst it's uncomfortable. ^^;

I'm still waiting to see if it'll happen at some point while Gokû's there with him. Vegeta's perfectly comfortable getting awkward with Bulma present, but he doesn't want to break the stoic prince image he built up in front of Gokû imo.

I don't see the characters being made fun of, they're just participating in a gag which isn't insulting when given proper context for the scene. Akin to what Wezenheim and DBZAOTA said, whether its actually funny or not is probably the biggest deciding factor in whether its a crime Toei/Toriyama must burn for or is okay so there's always going to be someone whining. Characters do evolve and some don't like what that evolution entails and when it comes to humor its always hit or miss.

For me I'm made more uncomfortable/angry by other situations like Vegeta holding Goku but I'm aware I'm inconsistently hypersensitive so I keep my crazy to myself, not all can do that.

I like seeing him like that more often as a Vegeta fan.

It all falls down to the type of comedy, which simply isn't my cup of tea. It's embarrassing seeing them use Vegeta the way they have (i.e. his stupid mannerisms when he tried to get Whis to train him, the spontaneous chef thing, the bingo dance, etc). I've compared it in the past to an older brother taking his younger brother's Vegeta action figure, putting a dress on it, and making it do fart noises while saying lines you'd expect the character to say on the show.

A far more respectable way of "poking fun at the character" is something along the lines of what they did during the Trunks arc, where Bulma got him to put on a pink shirt, and he reacted as you would expect him to. Nowadays, they have him voluntarily put on pink aprons and serve as a maid. This is disrespectful to his character and nothing an actual Vegeta fan should approve of, imo.

Agreed. The way Goku decided to go with the SSJG ritual due to his new found respect for Vegeta was the icing on the cake. It needed to have remain a special occasion.

The thing is no amount of gags can outright ruin a character. At least no amount of gags can ruin a character, if they get better moments later. Vegeta can dance around in a friggin tutu and we can all have a laugh. However if Vegeta doesn't get a cool moment or more moments to show we still should take Vegeta seriously, then he remains a joke. Gohan can be tossed aside like garbage plenty of times and that isn't a big problem. The problem is if he has no moments to redeem or learn from his failures does he truly become a failure. Piccolo can be a godfather/adorable babysitter for the kids and have a bunch of shenanigans watching Pan. He still needs to have his stoic cool moments, or else his character will be more of a joke character.

When you make fun of a character, you need them to still have good useful moments to make up for their embarrassments. Embarrassing characters is fun. Embarrassing characters and letting them remain the butt of jokes/never get a chance to improve themselves is not fun.

No way Vegeta is like anything from the Cell arc. He was an outright asshole in the arc, that created more problems than he solved, and only through extreme circumstances, showed even a glimpse of humanity.

In Super, I actually find Vegeta's antics hilarious because it shows how accustomed Vegeta has become to surroundings. Vegeta realises just how silly his friends, family and the situations that he can sometimes get into can be and instead of being anti-social, he just joins in on the antics and embraces it. And I love that. It show that Vegeta can do more than just growl or scoff at everything.

I've said this multiple times and I'll repeat myself again: Vegeta is undeniably at his BEST when he's being humiliated. Now whether he's being humiliated by his opponent or he purposefully humiliates himself to acquire something is irrelevant, but it's in these occasions that his character truly shines.

And conversely, whenever Vegeta gets his way, that's when his character becomes the absolute worst. i.e Android/Cell arc Vegeta.
