Well, if someone does have the details on how much it was zoomed that would be great.

Speaking on that, though, if they were zoomed in to hide the glue in the first place then doesn't that mean we're getting pretty much the same vertical picture we've been getting since FUNi started releasing DBZ in America?

FUNimation didn't zoom the image themselves. They used the masters as they were given them, it's just that Toei's recent remaster has more image on each side.

Some of the glue at the top of the screen is actually still visible in the screencap Daimao posted from the CN broadcast waaaaaaay back in the thread:

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.

See, the thing is, way before Toei's remasters (back around the PN days) I was hearing something about zoomed in picture. That's why I was wondering about it.

Overall. they still take more away than the supposed zoom ever did but not by much.

I forsee a lot of "DBZ Season 1 DVD Set" contests in the future.

Just in case it hasn't been posted yet, the second season is also now available for pre-order at CD Universe. You can find it for $34.97 at http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7371627.

I suppose this thread is already too low on the forum food chain to be noticed.

Problem is, the framing of the "FUNi's 4:3 zoomed-in digi-beta masters" shot bears no resemblance to the image from the R1 -or- R2 releases. It seems to me that the people who made that comparison didn't base the "4:3 version" on an actual existing 4:3 version, but on what some hypothetical 4:3 version might look like if it was cropped in this particular way.

I'd still like to see more actual comparisons between the R2s, the old R1s and (when it's actually released) the new R1 box set.

Exactly. I've seen those images. I was looking to see exactly what the R1 releases actually looked like as I don't own any except for the original Tree of Might dub.

Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQEkw0iSLWo&NR

Not nearly as funny, but I've never seen this in japanese (or any DBZ before season 3, for that matter, so I thought it was pretty cool.

Spanish version is as funny as US one imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnrvJajYrKE&NR

Oh, and I thought this was funny too:

Someone could just sync up Season 1's new audio feed with Dragon Box video using a computer and then you will all have your ultimate dub.

Umm.. how the hell would that make the Ultimate Super-duper Uncut Version of Dragonball Z? :?

As for the 9000 thing, what did they say in the re-dub? I've gone and watched all the versions of it on youtube, but haven't seen that one anywhere

"IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND AAAUGH!"

But I wonder why it wasn't fixed to over 8000, though. They fixed a lot of other things like that, if I remember correctly.

Darn... Sabat has no presence lol.

Maybe they changed it again in the new sets to 8000. "ITS OVER EIGHT THOUSAAAAND!!" would be awesome, but.. unlikely...

Well, someone over at ToonZone posted the episode count per disc from an ad they saw in Tips & Tricks:
  • Disk 1: Episodes 1 - 7
    Disk 2: Episodes 8 - 14
    Disk 3: Episodes 15 - 21
    Disk 4: Episodes 22 - 28
    Disk 5: Episodes 29 - 35
    Disk 6: Episodes 36 - 39 and Extras
Do you guys think Funi got the audio for the episode previews? Because they seem to make a big point about having,"all the original japanese audio" in the trailer.

I hope they do have the previews... I would think they do since they got the Japanese BGM to use with the dub. If they can get the film masters, they can get the preview audio! If not I'll be pretty damn disappointed.

Has anyone asked this in any FUNi Rep threads?

I certainly hope they have the episode previews. They did for GT.

I also hope the episodes contain the right version of the theme songs. (Especially if they ever go back and do Dragon Ball)
