Is Hercule/Mr Satan unethical?
You know, him stealing credit from the Z warriors about him saving the world from Cell and Buu? Man, it's really a shame, cuz I actually did like Hercule until I thought about this. I still like him, but now not as much as I used to. I think there should've been an arc about him actually confessing to the world that he ain't the world warrior that he is.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
Mr Satan gives the Earth hope during a crisis, helps reduce mass panic. The Z-Fighters don't care for publicity while Mr. Satan loves it so if anything he is doing them a favour.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
The rest of the world doesn't know about Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, etc...and they also don't want fame for their heroics. So they let Satan take the credit because they don't care.
Vegeta said he would kill any reporters who came to his door in the early Buu saga.

Goku and the other Z fighters are not superheroes. They don't care about fame and they are okay with the world thinking that Mr. Satan defeated Cell and Beerus.

There are a lot less ethical people who Goku has made friends with...

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
I don't mind him taking the credit for the defeats of Cell and Boo. Since Goku and the others don't care, they actually prefer it that way. It proved useful during the Pure Boo fight.
However, the Tenkaichi Budokai rigging is disgusting. I understand it's necessary to maintain the status quo, but the "greater good" reason doesn't excuse such behavior.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
That's the joke. Sometimes, comedy comes from unsavory places. if Gohan was some Rudy-esque hero hoisted up on the shoulders of the citizens of Satan City, that would be irredeemably un-Dragon Ball-like.

He's more than redeemed himself at this point, especially after playing a major role in the Spirit Bomb and basically funding the Son's EoZ lifestyle.
I personally think the worst aspect of it all is the rigging of future tournaments but unfortunately that type of thing rings true to real life in a lot of ways. Sometimes the most deserving people will get screwed over by opportunists who are only in it for themselves.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
The whole thing is really stupid because apparently there was no papparazi during the events of Dragonball. People shooting beams of energy for years before Mark changed his name to Hércule, but suddenly for Toriyama to come up with some loser to take all the credit, now everyone is camera shy. And yes, there is a difference between not caring about being a celebrity and being afraid of being a celebrity. Piccolo did not care about being a celebrity when he blew up the World Stadium floor. He was afraid of being a celebrity when he didn't slap Mark around for lying and just let him keep lying. Even if no one would own up to what really happened, allowing that farce to continue was goddamn stupid.

Considering we didn't really see the conclusion of the tournament from the end of Z with Uub, we really don't know what happened in the end.NitroEX wrote: I personally think the worst aspect of it all is the rigging of future tournaments but unfortunately that type of thing rings true to real life in a lot of ways. The one in the Buu saga was handled perfectly. 18 flat out said she didn't want the publicity and didn't care to be famous, she just wanted the money. 18 losing on purpose to Mr. Satan fit both characters perfectly and was funny to boot. Especially since 18 started harassing Satan afterward to pay her the money.

No, he's the people's champ. He deserves the glory more than those weaklings who rely on cheap tricks.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

No, he's a mixed bag. He shouldn't take credit for something he didn't do and a number of times that could've lead to disaster. However, him being a fame whore ends up helping, though that doesn't fully excuse his behavior. All that said, his genuine love for his family and Buu, then eventually becoming a part of the Son family is endearing.
I agree with one of the above posters. It's a shame what the Tenkaichi Bukokai became. It used to be a place where the best in the world and fight fans congregated to see great action. Now it's the place where people go to watch a celebrity, and tournaments are thrown just to appease a bunch of gullible fans' evaluation of a nobody.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
The Z-Fighters were never interested in the fame or glory that came with saving the world and Mr Satan was. Doesn't sound unethical to me. Besides, he already show that deep down he really is good person that he truly does love the people of Earth and would jump in the firing line if the time called for it.

Whether someone wants fame or not isn't important, Mr. Satan didn't do the things he claimed. He didn't merely fib, he told a HUGE lie and profited off of it and not just monetarily, though that would be bad enough.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
Satan was already famous way before the Cell games. That's why he was already considered a champion, was on TV, and had legions of fans. Sure he took credit for saving the world when he didn't, but he still built himself up as a martial arts master all on his own.

Fame, yes, but not as the world's savior. The would bring a whole other level of fame and power and wealth. His insecurities stem from this, and that's especially apparent in the anime.

More or less sums up my response to any Mr. Satan hate.
I do hate that he rigs every future Tournament, if Mr. Satan were to lose would people really suddenly abandon him or simply try and crown a new hero? I suppose its meant to inspire belief in an invincible hero like a Santa Claus figure almost. I'm just glad in GT Goku gets his own statue and the Budokai Announcer at least knows the truth.

I started respecting Satan as soon as he started interacting with Buu. But regarding him being the savior of the world, I think when he gave Goku the Money in the first episode of Super, I thought that was pretty damn cool of him doing that, I think it brought tears to my eyes.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
Personally, my answer to that question boils down to this. "Does Mr. Satan still have to fight everyone up until the final match-up with Buu? Or does he only have to fight Buu?" If it's the former, than yes, since he's still proving himself to be stronger than every other human there. But if not, then no, he's being unethical. Though, I will point out, it's also partially the responsibility of the tournament commissioners to make sure that nothing cheap is happening. If Buu really is this invincible warrior that can't be hurt or phased by anything, they should probably be banning him from the tournaments. And for that matter, Mr. Satan probably shouldn't be allowed to compete either if they really do think he's this invincible god who can't be hurt by anyone or anything.

Re: Is (the H-word)/Mr Satan unethical?
I think him taking credit for the cell games was unethical -- the z warriors didn't agree to him doing that, even if they preferred it that way in the long run. He took credit and money for simply being a bystander.
Buu saga he did play an integral role and everyone agreed to give him credit, plus he takes care of buu now and shares his proceeds.
Rigging tournaments... Meh, we all know buu would win anyway. It might be wrong, but I think that win is a pretty minor thing in the grand scheme of things, and does more good than harm. If someone legit beats buy, he is one to watch. Otherwise, they would still be behind our main charad and no more deserving of the title than mr satan.
