20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
Its odd how GT's plot holes start in the VERY FIRST episode.
Like how can the Black Star Dragonballs even exist? They were said to be made before Kami split from King Piccolo, yet shouldn't these balls have disappeared when Nappa killed Piccolo/Kami like the regular Earth's Dragonballs did? And again when Kid Buu blew up the Earth after that?
Its like TOEI's writers forgot the entire Earth was destroyed or that Kami had died before. And yet they're shown kept in a jar like they were always hidden there.

It didn't kill the anime industry... but it was a factor in it's decline during the mid 90's.Hellspawn28 wrote:It didn't kill the anime industry, but GT did put the series on hold for years. It is odd that Plotholes started at the beginning of Battle if Gods when Goku wanted to teleport to the Kaiohshin and Kaioh was like "no Goku, don't do it!" and later said about Beerus "you cannot feel the aura of a god!" within like 2 minutes. Especially Goku could not teleport in the Boo Saga because he could not focus and not because of the aura. So, even 2 plotholes.precita wrote:Its odd how GT's plot holes start in the VERY FIRST episode.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
The thing about the Black Star Dragon Ball hunt is that they have the whole plot of the Earth being destroyed if they don't return in one year and yet most of the saga is campy and light hearted fun. Blackenfist mention that it kinda ruins the whole mood behind the idea. Besides the Earth ends up being blown up and they just wish back the Earth. So it makes the whole trip feel pointless. GT did feel like that they where marketing the series to a younger audience since GT did felt more tamer compare to DBZ. The only violent moment in GT was when Vegeta got stab by Yi Xing Long's spike. We didn't see Dolltaki's head get blown up into pieces since they cut it away quickly. People say that the recent DB stuff is more light hearted, but it has been like that much longer.

They wished it back because they were able to do so. What would they have done without Tsufuru being there? Teleporting to Namek? Getting to another planet was an option but it would have been hard to convince everyone without that catastrophe before, also the rest of Goku's family wanted Goku to go.

GT did not kill the Dragonball Franchise in Japan.
The Dragonball Franchise merely reached a natural end-point; the Manga had long since ended, the anime had passed the peak of its popularity, and whilst GT's ratings were never stellar, they were competent and fairly stable. Toei could have happily ran and ran with it if they wanted to, but all the signs showed that Dragonball was a tired commodity and they knew that they were staring down a downward trend. All parties wanted to move on, Toriyama was done with it, and by the end of GT, Toei were looking to the future, leading to attempts to adapt newer titles such as Yu-Gi-Oh and One Piece. Moreover, Toei's move into pastures new coincided with Dragonball Z's international licensing boom, where they suddenly found themselves with circa 500 episodes worth of, essentially, a legacy product that they could continue to farm income off abroad without having to produce any new product for an already-jaded domestic audience.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
It won't make sense for Toei to drop a big money maker. As long if it keeps on selling then they would have kept the Dragon Ball series going with new shows. Just look at their live action shows like Super Sentai. They make those every year because they make a lot of money for them. If GT did better in ratings and merchandise sales then GT would have been 100 episodes long or they have done a show with Goku Jr after 1997. I doubt they ended GT because they felt like that they where done with it. Toei made GT because they wanted to move the series farther without Toriyama.

Love that the GT haters are always a small group of 4 people who take no time to jump off the handle and keep making the same remarks every time.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
Well another plot hole would be that Chi-Chi says that Goku, Trunks and Pan have been out for nine months and they have three more months before the Planet blows up. Yet the Earth still gets blown up in GT after returning to Earth in the Bebi saga. I doubt it took 4 months for Goku to return back from the Kaioshin Planet and New Planet Vegeta. So if another wish was made on the Black Star Dragon Balls then won't that allow another 12 months for them to go back into space? The Black Star Dragon Balls in GT was poorly put together. I do hope Super does a better job on the Super Dragon Balls.precita wrote:Its odd how GT's plot holes start in the VERY FIRST episode.

There is no need for anniversary, it would just serve as a reminder of a dark past.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
I'd certainly like to see GT get an official soundtrack release, if it were to celebrate an anniversary of some sort. If there was one part of GT that definitely was awesome in its own regard it was the music. Everything else about GT was pretty forgettable, save the concept of the Shadow Dragon arc.

Ah..DBGT, while compared to Super, i make it appreciate it more, i still find it a wasted potential, waste of Uub, and everyone who is not Goku. This review sums it all perfectly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tlt-_lKfhJ4

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
Its odd how even GT shafted Gohan, did nothing with Goten, screwed over both Piccolo and Vegeta, and the humans Krillin/Yamcha/Tien are completely gone by that point.
Like there was so much they could have done. They don't even do anything with Bra, who could have been the new Bulma for the group in space.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
GT felt like it was mainly focusing on Goku. Pan had big roles and even she still felt kinda useless. At least Super has give other characters to shine in the ROF arc before Goku and Vegeta shows up. I still dislike what GT did to Uub. Toriyama made Uub to have Goku train him and become the next projector of Earth. In GT, he is pretty much a jobber. Uub got his ass kick by Bebi then fuse with Buu and got his ass kick again. He also got his ass kick again by Super 17 and Yi Xing Long.

[*]Pilaf wished Goku to be small
[*]They had one year to bring back the Dragon Balls to a certain spot
[*]They found the Dragon Balls
[*]They gave the Dragon Balls to Dende who did not bring them back to where they belong as he was corrupted already - therefore the timer was not reset´, just bringing them back to Dende's lookout was not enough, Popo even mentioned that they were under Baby's infuence when they wondered why Earth explodes implying that they did not finish their job
[*]He gave them to Baby
[*]Baby wished for Tsufuru 2
[*]The Dragon Balls disappeared
[*]The timer ran out
[*]Earth exploded.

Meh, GT has some cool things, like the Planet M2 saga and the Baby saga.DBZAOTA482 wrote:I will give my props to GT... for nearly killing the franchise and the anime industry in Japan almost 20 years ago.

I feel like those could have been better. I admit the machine mutants look cool, but they could have been better. I remember the Sigma Force was just a water down version of the Ginyu Force. They didn't have the same charm that the Ginyu Force had.

Re: 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball GT
The treatment of Oob is one of my biggest gripes with GT. The guy was handpicked by Goku himself and was pretty much set up to be Goku's successor and he gets treated like a fucking joke. I'll never forgive GT for how they handled Oob. It was unacceptable, in my opinion.Hellspawn28 wrote:GT felt like it was mainly focusing on Goku. Dragon Ball GT also did not show adult Gotenks to us (if it was not for Dragon Ball Heroes, a game...). Well, despite its major and many flaws, I think a "quick and small" celebration is fine. Let us see what the franchise has in mind to GT next year/February.

If we could get even just a release of the show's soundtrack, I would be more than happy with that. I've always liked the score we got from Tokunaga, so I'd love to get to hear some of it outside of the show itself.
