I'm quite sure it's the opposite. Apes don't have tails, monkeys do. The dub went with "Great Ape", so maybe you mixed the two.

Oozaru literally translates as "Great Monkey". I think you need to do more research instead of stuffing of your face, Beerus-sama.

Apes don't have tails. That's why you don't see Gorillas and Humans with tails.

Funimation probably went with "Great Ape" because it sounds better. As the Nostalgia Critic said that the word "Monkey" is too funny. Great Monkey would not sound serious for a name in the English dub for DBZ.
